  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tiger's 'Genesis Experience'

local news this morning stated that speed and possible distracted driving were factors.

Yes that is what I read also. I believe I also ready that the engine was not separated from the chasis until perhaps during the rescue.

Any publicity is good publicity. There are still people that never heard of a Genesis but will see one now.
There is a quote attributed to a few people over the years.
P. T. Barnum — 'I don't care what the newspapers say about me as long as they spell my name right.'
Yes, and P.T. Barnum also said, “There’s a sucker born every minute.”

^ there's something that could change the notion of any publicity being good: i read a report there were no signs of braking (i.e. skid marks). if this is confirmed as a fact, it could be possible that Tiger never hit the brakes. this seems weird, but who knows what the circumstances were. it's fair to say he's had his share of single vehicle 'incidents'. the GV80 likely has some sort of 'black box' that can be data logged to see what mechanical/electrical inputs were made before/during the crash. if it is confirmed that Tiger never hit the brakes, then hopefully (for Genesis) the messaging turns to the fact that the car helped save his life. plus, he still got lucky that he never T-boned a tree or had the roof crush...or hit an oncoming car/truck after jumping the median.

another possibility is that of a system failure. if the black box shows Tiger had been hammering the brakes with no system response...i'd say this is not good publicity and Genesis's reputation will suffer, especially a new model like the GV80 which is crucial to Genesis N.A. market expansion.

as a Genesis owner, i certainly hope the facts show it was the former that occurred.

The likelihood of the accident being anything other than driver error is small. Very, very small. He was reported to have been agitated and seemingly in a hurry or rush when he left from whereever he left minutes before the crash.

I'll put money down on the simple fact that, while Tiger can simultaneously handle a stable of waitresses, be married to a crazy hot Swedish human, be nourished by Colombian snowstorms, and win championships and trophies like a DARPA robot doing gymnastics . . . he just can't handle the twin turbos.

Look at the picture of the roof of the GV80 on the flatbed...for a vehicle that rolled, it looks nearly untouched. Amazing. Try that with a 57 Chevy.
Years ago, my girlfriend was T-Boned in her Subaru Forester by another vehicle at full speed that had run a red light, 200 yards from her office. It pushed her across 3 lanes of traffic into another vehicle-and that vehicle stopped her from rolling over. All side curtain and airbags deployed and the vehicle was completely totaled.
When I arrived at the scene, the paramedics that were there told me, "You know, sir, 15 years ago this would have been a very different scene." She was bruised and banged up and sore and had a knee injury, but was fine. In the ER, she insisted on getting another Forester, and when we did, the first thing we noticed was the knee bolster Subaru added, so even That injury might not have happened. Amazing. She has an Ascent now when we added the 3rd dog to our home and needed room for the larger Variocage.
The GV80, like her Subaru, did its job.

He survived. Now the advertising people have to get to work and make it good.
Make what good? I'm guessing Genesis would have painted over the name on the door panel in a NY minute if they could. On the other hand, the damage shows how well the vehicle protected Woods in a crash. Single vehicle accidents are always suspicious. Maybe the "black box" will show what happened.

Well. let's see. A celebrity sports guy survives a bad crash. The police spokesman on national TV says the airbags and interior or the car probably saved his life. Why would Genesis try to hide that?

What other SUV on the market has that kind of publicity? Yep, must be a well made vehicle I can put my family in.

A soccer mom is likely to be less aggressive behind the wheel resulting in an even safer environment.

This study (using 2010MY CR-Vs). showed that even not major differences in speed can make a significant difference in the injuries sustsined

The groups looked at rising speed limits across the country and what it means for the average, modern car, which is about 12 years old in 2021. With a handful of 2010 Honda CR-V crossovers at their disposal, they crash tested them at incremental speed increases. First, a CR-V crashed at 40 mph and it held up well with minimal intrusions in the cockpit. Jumping to 50 mph, the vehicle showed "noticeable deformation" of the driver side door opening, dashboard and foot area. It's precisely what you don't want in the event of a crash as parts and components push inward and threaten occupants. Think of the cockpit, ideally, as a cocoon while the exterior crumples around it.

In the third and final crash test, the vehicle was sent careening into a wreck at just 56 mph and IIHS noted the CR-V's interior was "significantly compromised." Worse, the crash dummy registered neck injuries and signs of fractured leg bones. With just a 6 mph increase in speed from 50 mph, drivers have a far greater chance at injury.

While structural integrity in new models have improved since 2010, still only so much a vehicle can do to protect the passengers once you get up to a certain speed.

When an airliner crashes, one of the first things they do after the smoke clears is paint over the tail which has the company name or logo. All I was referring to is the Genesis name painted on the drivers door.

Last night I viewed this clip regarding the accident:
at 40 seconds in I love how the media tries to separate the possibility of Woods being responsible for the crash by stating that "the suv that Woods was driving lost control." How does the vehicle lose control? Is it not the driver that loses control?

Does anyone really believe this was the car's fault:unsure:

Honest mom, I didn't touch anything, it just fell off the table and broke.

whatever the outcome of the investigation is, i think it's fair to say that someone (management team?) needs to take the keys away from old bones Eldrick. probably should have happened years ago given the number of single vehicle 'incidents' he's had. i've long been a fan of his, but i'd prefer he avoids driving and sticks to what he's good at... by that i meant the golf part, not his other 'hobbies'.

hiring a driver is no issue for him aside from his pride. if he is tight on cash, time to send around the contribution tray amongst Tour players. Tiger changed the game and singlehandedly put million$ in everyone else's pockets close to the game so they should be lining up to help.

Since he's had several single vehicle "accidents", maybe he thinks all cars are autonomous drivers. Be interesting to see what the speed was.
