  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all!

I recently got a 2018 G80 3.3T, White.

Per another members (@bubbaG80Sport ) signature, I started looking at Xpel Prime XR Black tint, Im going to do 20% all around. Then blackout's on the rear tail lights.

The price is $299 for 4 windows and then rear windshield. Is that a good price? I cant really tell, are the windows on the g80 stained or is any darkening a light tint?

Mine has what appears to be a light tint .. if you look at the window, the very top maybe 1/8th of an inch is clear then it get's slightly darker for the rest of the window. So, if that is the case, it will be $379 because $80 to remove tint.

They also offer the clear bra for the entire a-frame forward, but it's like $2000 - Anybody have experience with clear film on their cars? is it very noticable?

Any other suggestions on tint brands or clear film\bra brands?

Thanks in advance!

If you blacked out the tailights, can you upload a pic ? Also 300$ for all 5 windows , i feel you can get much cheaper maybe like 250$ or slightly less depending, keep shopping around.

I'm hoping to have them remove all the emblems as well.

I am not familiar with tint brand names, other then 3M, but google told me the Xpel looks pretty good. If you are getting the ceramic tint then $300 is a good price. I paid closer to $450ish in MD for ceramic on my 2018 G80.
Here is an older thread here about tint. Tinting

I haven't researched the clear bra, but I feel there is a thread some here about those too. One of my co-workers told me I am crazy for not getting it.
Good luck..

Pricing can vary widely depending on location and demand, but your quotes are comparable to what I paid in my area (Southeast U.S.) Feb. 2018.

A quality window tint installed on side and rear windows runs ~$350USD in my area. At purchase I took my 2018 G80 Sport 3.3T to my local detailer for window tint AND film. Invoiced cost was $2,300USD. I gave detailer cash and he discounted me $500.

Tint - 4 side windows and rear window tint with Xpel Prime XR Black 35 (VLT 36%).
Film - Painted surfaces clear filmed from front bumper to front door seam (including A-Pillar and headlights), door handles and trunk lip. It was Xpel film, but I don't have the exact version at my fingertips right now.

3 years and 36K miles later the film and tint has held up well. Properly installed the film on the paint is un-noticeable. The film protects the car from scratches and staining (water spots/etching, bird poo, tree sap, etc.). It does need to be cleaned and polished with a special product provided by vendor periodically. It will provide some protection from small rocks/debris, but not large rocks (its not made of Kevlar !)

Key items
K1) Where possible have the film wrapped around edge of body panel. Any exposed edges will be more noticeable and collect dirt. Do not 1/2 wrap the hood. You'll see this (especially on light colors) and it will collect dirt over time. In my case I only wrapped to the top of the A-pillar. There is a film edge that is somewhat noticeable. With film wrapped around hood edges, it is near impossible to see car is filmed.

K2) The appearance and durability of the film is highly dependent upon the installation. Find a recommended/quality installer.

K3) Film is very difficult to install on body parts with sharp edges/contours. My film developed bubbles on my G80 Sport lower bumper after installation. I took it back and detailer/installer corrected/fixed.

I am a fan-boy of car film. I considered filming my body to mitigate getting older. ;)

I recently had the windows tinted on my 2019 G80, 5.0, Ultimate. The side and back windows were done with Formula One Pinnacle Ceramic, 35%. The front windshield and sunroof were done with AIR 80 BL SR Hpr with a slight tint. Tint comes with a lifetime, transferable warranty. Cost was $800. I live in Southern Nevada so tint is necessary. The car is white with a black interior. The tint made a difference, interior heat wise, when the car is left in the sun especially when you sit on black leather. Heat rejection and 99% UV protection will help preserve the leather. The ceramic used on the windshield does not affect the heads-up display or interfere with night driving. You will notice the difference when driving into the sun.

I'll post some pictures but I got Xpel Prime XR black 30% on front, 20% on back and then smoked out the tail lights and removed all labeling except the genesis emblem. It was a little over $400. I'll post some pictures later.

Yeah if you can post pics later that will be great.

Has anyone tinted their whole rear tailights or tinted their tailights but left the turn signals alone ? If so can you post the pictures on here ? Just want to see how it would look like , please and thank you
