  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all

It's time I get my new Genesis tinted, but I am having a hard time finding a decent shop in my area, not to mention obtaining a quote.

Do you know of any shops near me that you can recommend, please tell me.

Can't wait to post pictures of it.

You need to decide what kind of tint film you want. The best heat rejection (as opposed to just a tint film that looks good) is a ceramic like Formula One Pinnacle (there are other brands also). Metallic films do a good job of heat rejection, but can block certain radio or phone signals somewhat.

Oh I know what I want; Ceramic to block the massive heat here in the desert of California, I just need to find a good shop, and that's where my problem is.
Thank you though, I appreciate it. :)

i've taken my genesis and 3 other cars to this place in Upland:

shades of glass
2016 W Foothill Blvd
Upland, CA 91786
(909) 981-3246

very good job. i don't know if he has ceramic though.

around $200.

Thanks.. I will give them a call.

$300 for ceramic tinting.. does that sound right??

If you know what brand(s) of tint film you want, look for the dealers who install that brand, and then start to narrow your options down. Some tint film manufacturer websites will have a dealer locater webpage to assist you.

I paid $350 for all my windows ( Including the windshield ). You would have to drive to Santa Clarita.

35% on front, Limo on the rear and 77% on windshield. 77% is legal in California.

No, I've always had tint on my vehicles. It might be at first, You would adjust to it quickly. It keeps the inside little cooler and cuts way down on the glare. Oh and you know those idiots that come up behind you with there brights on, helps with that too! lol

I was trying to read up and the state law here in California.. and the latest info I could find, stated that you couldn't do anything on the windshield, 30% on the two front side windows and whatever you wanted on the two rear side windows as well as the back window.

Please explain if I misunderstood anything.

Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:

-The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
-If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.

The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions.

However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.

Here is some info from CA Highway Patrol:

However, here is some additional information regarding exceptions:

(d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows, located to the immediate left and right of the front seat if the following conditions are met:

(1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent.

(2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard.

(3) The material is designed and manufactured to enhance the ability of the existing window glass to block the sun’s harmful ultraviolet A rays.

(4) The driver has in his or her possession, or within the vehicle, a certificate signed by the installing company certifying that the windows with the material installed meet the requirements of this subdivision and the certificate identifies the installing company and the material’s manufacturer by full name and street address, or, if the material was installed by the vehicle owner, a certificate signed by the material’s manufacturer certifying that the windows with the material installed according to manufacturer’s instructions meet the requirements of this subdivision and the certificate identifies the material’s manufacturer by full name and street address.

(5) If the material described in this subdivision tears or bubbles, or is otherwise worn to prohibit clear vision, it shall be removed or replaced.

I have come to the sound conclusion that it's nothing but a crap-shoot!!! Whether or not you run into an officer who's having a bad day and will write you a ticket for it or not..

Oh well, it's worth it..

There are some 70 VLT films that provide decent protection, such as 3M Crystalline 70.

So today I finally had my Genesis tinted.. I decided to go to "Shades of Glass" in Upland. They are very professional, very courteous and fair in price.

Rear window and 2 back windows: 85%
2 front windows: 35%
Windshield: 18%

Looks and feels amazing now.

Congrats on the tint, The percentage is how much light the tint let's through it. So you have 82% on your windshield?
