  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tinting Warning

If you haven't pulled the trigger yet, and don't mind a short road trip, would be happy to hook you up with my guy in Tampa (just north of RayJay) My salesguy recommended and they were great. He does "Florida legal" which is 20%, and it has been super. $119.95 for total job +tax.

PMed you back. Sounds great, and we could drop the car off and hang out at the International mall for a few hours while it gets done.

Your correct about much of your statement, but you can get the smoked (black) film that has a lifetime warranty now days. It's a carbon film, and has a lifetime warranty against color changing and fading.

I own a black on black Genesis and love it! I have been doing window tinting on the side for 9 years now and I can't wait to do the car.

Just a quick note for info purposes. I put metalic tint on the back window of my 2006 Dodge Charger R/T. I'm a sports nut and listen to AM sports talk. Reception was fine before tinting and distroyed after tinting. So if you do listen to AM, words of warning.......

Hello everyone,

As an experienced tinter for 9 years now, I think I should share the correct products to clean the interior of your windows if you have had film applied.

First,

Do not use WINDEX! Windex contains ammonia D and this product will break down the compounds of the film over time and damage your film.

However, Windex does now make a product the is ammonia free.

I really like Invisible glass available at Wal-mart etc, but you may use any product the states on the front of the bottle "safe for tinted windows" or something similar.

2nd,

As to what type of towel etc. to use..... Some people use newspaper which works decent, and some use regular soft paper towels which does a fine job.

Any questions??? Please feel free to ask.

Scott

I had Llumar metallic on my Grand Marquis and had no problems. I have FormulaOne on my Subaru and it also has no radio reception problems. Of course both cars have in-glass antennas. I've been using the same tint shop for 16+ years and they also told me they Llumar/FormulaOne were basically the same company with different branding.

Metallic is the only way to avoid ending up with purple tint down the road. Dyes change color; metal does not.

I think they put that in the manual just in case some funky tint setup (sparkles, reflective, etc.) does create a reception issue. Any sane tint won't cause a problem.

Gotta stop you right here..........lol!

Metallic film is NOT the only film to stop the purple as the tint ages and gets sun damaged.

I use Solargard film and for my smoke film (black in color) I use a carbon film which has a liftime warranty on color change since it does not contain a dye like cheap films do.

I live in south Florida and definitley wanted the best tint. Fortunately my brother is a 30 year experienced tint installer so if I had any problems a replacement with non-metalic would be no problem or $$. He installed the metallic on side and back windows. No noticeable differnence in FM or HD FM reception on the Genesis.

I can tell you that metallic tinting my Toyota Camry with the XM antenna mounted on the back shelf killed my XM reception! My brother cut out a perect square just above the antenna and the recption was once again OK. Maybe interior XM antenna recpetion is the root of this concern. Thankfully the Genesis has the antenna on the roof!

Thanks so much Scott! I have wondered about this. I've used newspaper for years and was afraid it would scratch the film. Guaranteed, I'll go to Walmart today and get the Invisiglass!

One thing I forgot to mention about people using newspaper to clean their glass. The reason some people use newspaper including tinters is there is no small particles of lint left over as some paper towels can leave behind.

Cleaning the glass to perfection is critical before installing film on it, and if an incorrect towel etc. that leaves lint behind is used, the lint we be visible after the film is installed and it may appear also be a little lumpy.

Anyone interested to know more about tinting can visit tintdude.com or send me a message.

It almost guaranteed that metallic tint will interfere with your AM radio reception. Since most of us don't listen to AM, it should be a non-issue. We had to remove/redo the rear window on a car last year for this particular reason. Since no one here listens to AM, we were unaware of the issue. Trust me, you do not want to try and remove tint from a rear window with built-in defroster.
Hey! What about 680 The Fan (ESPN Radio)? Listen to it.

Just wondering if you went and picked up a bottle of the Invisible Glass cleaner?

If so, how do you like it?:)

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse. The manual only cautions about metallic films on the rear window, which might intefere with terrestrial broadcast signals, because the antennas are mounted in the glass.

I have the 4.6 with tech package, called my dealer and told me that it was ok to install metallic film on the rear window because the antenna for the GPS is on the front windshield, it's located by the rearview mirror. Did your dealer tell you that it's located in the rear glass? Or are you talking about the antenna for the AM/FM antenna?

Also, somebody else commented that the antenna for the GPS & XM is mounted on the roof. 3 different answers to antenna location.

Probably need to do more research. Thanks:confused:
