  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just bought a 2021 GV80. The tires on it are Michelin Primacy and they sound loud and rough. I was thinking about replacing them with something smoother and quiter. Does anyone have any suggestions ? I had Continental ProContact on my Caddy and they were incredibly quiet and smooth.

The OEM Michelin Primacy is a quiet and smooth tire which is why it was chosen for the GV80. Some tires don't age well in certain conditions and it's possible one or more of yours has degraded causing the noise and roughness you're feeling. If you can get new ones (and they are unfortunately occasionally out of stock), you may be pleasantly surprised at the difference. You don't mention the mileage on these tires or the degree of treadwear (or if it's even). Some more information might help.

The tires have 16k miles on them and appear to be in good shape, evenly worn.

I'm not surprised with only 16000 miles on them they are not worn unevenly. My concern might be that with so few miles being driven in the 4 years or so since the car was delivered, It may have been sitting for very long periods without being moved, possibly resulting in flat spots or other deformation of the tire components. I'm just guessing and I'm certainly not a tire specialist. Just an observation that all components of vehicles tend to work better when the car is driven regularly. Sometimes low mileage is not a plus.

Just yesterday, a friend traded in her 2010 Ford with the original tires still on it.

You are correct, low miles does not prevent some problems, such as rust deteriorating rubber hoses and gaskets, etc..

I have Michelin Crossclimate 2's on all my vehicals and love them. They just came out with a version 3 which adds larger sizes, and added performance on all surfaces. Really well reviewed so far. I only have 700 miles on my '25 so my Primacy's are just fine. Just my $.02.

Thank you for all the input. This was a snowbird car resulting in it sitting in a garage for about 6 months a year. I will drive it for awhile and see if it helps the tires get back into the proper shape.

I don't see this tire coming in a size to fit the Prestige with 22" wheels unfortunately.

I think the Crossclimate 3's address larger tires but it looks as though they are not yet available in North America. Coming soon though I believe.

I have loved the Continentals. I replaced the Goodyears on my Caddy ct6 with Continental PureContacts and the car drove like a dream. Smooth and quiet and comfortable.

I find Michelin tires to be among the most hard-riding tires. Perhaps they last longer because the rubber is harder. Every time I've felt the rubber of a Michelin tire, the rubber seems hard. I similarly found the Pirelli tires I've tried to ride pretty hard.

Most recently, I bought a set of Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 for my Buick Enclave and found them to ride so hard that I had to get rid of them after only a few thousand miles. So, I did some research and came across the Continental CrossContact LX25 crossover grand touring tire. They have a cushion layer under the tread and are said to offer a "new car" ride.

So, I went back to Discount Tire and they worked me a deal on a set of the CrossContact LX25. Sure enough, they do offer a more supple ride over small irregularities in the road.

How are they for aggressive driving, primarily grip through multiple S curves?

Well, I have no idea about that, as I drive smooth and easy. But the OP's post was about his tires being loud and riding rough.

these are both good replacement options (as well as Michelin CC2 if snowy climate):
