  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I currently live in Indianapolis. In the last year and a half I have replaced 4 tires.

Yesterday on the way home from Florida I had another tire go on me while in the HOV lane in Nashville.... Scared the you know what out of me. That's the 5th tire.

I have had an issue with these low profile tire from day 1 BUT the air suspension made up for the harshness of the ride. Granted the potholes probably would have taken out higher profile tires as well, AND the cost has been not earth shattering cause discount pro-rated most of them where I didn't spend a lot of money to replace them, but its getting to the point where the enjoyment of ownership has begun to wane.....

I don't know if going down to 18" wheels with 45 or 50 profile tires will make me feel any safer as a result...

Discouraged to say the least.....

Jeez, what are you running over? I dont believe the car has much to do with the tires going out. The low profile maybe - but you could be driving an Audi and hit whatever you're hitting and it would be disastrous on the tire/wheels.
Maybe use Waze app or something that ppl mark potholes etc in the road might help give you a heads up when on the road. Good luck

Is that image of an aftermarket rim? I've put about 35,000 miles on my Equus, and have had a decent number of problems (mostly with the suspension) but nothing with the tires. If you are running aftermarket rims and tires, I'm not sure how you can blame the car.
Yes... they replaced 2 that were severely damaged by a pot hole in Panama City last November.... This is the first tire on this set of rims....

I lost 3 tires on original turbine wheels.... Bad luck all around....

I completely understand and get your frustration! When I had a 2015 Genesis, I’ve had to replace the continental tires on the 5.0 4 times and they all have been on the pass side front and rear. I can hit a patch of air and the tires will be damaged. I’d just went with a different brand of tires and to date I haven’t had anymore damaged or ruined tires. Granted I barely drive it since getting the G70, but I do take it out once in a while.

What brand tires are you running? Doesn't sound like it is the cars fault. I'm 62 and have never had a car tire come apart.

Let me clarify my position... I am not blaming the car in any way. Love the car. I DO disagree with manufacturers putting sports wheels on a highway cruiser... lol

I never thought I would be replacing these low profile tire as frequently as I have in the 2 years since I purchased this car. I replaced the Hankooks that were on it with Pirelli's. I like the Centuraro (spelling?) but too expensive for the rear set so I went P Zero's instead....

Just a little disillusioned is all. I'll get over it!

Consider getting a set of the stock 18 inch wheels and 45 size tires. May not be as glamorous or sporty but less risk and tire problems.

What did you drive on the same roads before you bought the Equus?

I only ask because most modern cars(2010 and up) have lower profile tires(17in or larger wheels) so I am sure that you should have had similar issues with any other later model car and pot hole damage. Unless you had an SUV or car with tires with taller sidewalls.

I owned a 2010 Genesis. Loved it. It has 235/50/18s on it and was a much smoother ride than the Equus which is the issue I have with this car..... Never had the luck I seem to be having with this car.

I'm a N.Y. Jet football fan.... I deeply understand suffering and self-inflicted bad luck! lol

Running Pirelli P Zero all season......
Not a bad tire. Stick w Michelin 😁👍

the only tire brands I have had complete blowouts with over the last 30 years are Bridgestone/Firestone and Pirelli.

i agreed stick with Michelin or BFGoodrich, I’ve had great luck with BFGoodrich, they last usually past their full warranty and they are comfortable for luxury vehicles, of course in my case they have always been 50-70 series, not 35 or 40 series..

might be the wheel it self or tire, could be just bad luck but i have a set of aftermarket 20s on my fathers equus for 8 years now and he has no issues. he is running a much cheaper tire nexens.

FWIW I've had my Equus for 2 year (20,000 miles) in NJ which if you don't know is notorious for bad roads. I've hit awful potholes that felt a lot like crashing the car, and I haven't had any issues with the stock continentals in that regard. I recently swapped out my tires for the Michelin Primacy MXM4 (stock sizes) and they haven't had any issues either.

I'm not an expert but it may be the aftermarket wheels I see in the picture that's the problem.

I'm going to add my .02 cents here. DO NOT buy off brand or cheaper tires. The most important thing is the weight/load rating of the tires. I learned the hard way about this about a decade ago with an S-class Mercedes. You cannot get away with a tire that has a lower than desirable weight rating, regardless of the speed rating, or mileage rating. The weight rating must be 1400lbs or more per tire. And keep in mind the weight/load rating is size dependent.

I have a 14 ultimate and I'm running Potenza RE980AS. If your tires are under $225 each they probably are not going to work on this car, less than great tires don't work with heavy cars.

I'd go with a squared up set of 18's if you could use spacers to fit them right, if even needed. Being able to rotate them all is nice.

The aftermarket wheels was a move out of desperation. We traveled to Florida last November. Got there late... Went to market once we arrived when it was late and dark outside. Took a road that had a crater that of course I did NOT see... Both right side tires and wheels damaged beyond repair. Did not think my options clearly and just went with these. Wife hates em. Car lost its "Presence" that the turbine seemed to fit nicely. I do regret the purchase. Looking at maybe finding used set on ebay maybe.... We'll see.

LOL. I really do not think that aftermarket wheels look better than the stock wheels on the Equus and 2015+ Genesis 5.0 models. Well, they may look nicer with 20in+ wheels, but the ride quality is diminished when these cars ride on heavy 20in+ wheels in my opinion. Its becomes form over function.

I love how the Equus look with the stock wheels. Perfect out the box like most high end model Hyundai/Genesis cars.

Bad roads will mess up a set of wheels on any make of car, so trading the Equus will not solve that problem. Buy some stock wheels/tires and take better roads.:)
