  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, has anybody checked the accuracy of the tyre pressure figures shown on the LCD screen in the car? That is, by actually measuring the pressures at the wheels and comparing. I'm wondering whether the values shown are more of an indication, rather than being deadly accurate.

Very accurate versus manually checking with a gauge in my experience so far.

You never know how accurate the gauge might be.

From what I've seen, TPMS is more accurate than any of my gauges. I have a very accurate gauge on my wish list for Christmas so hope to be more definitive in a few days.:)

True - but I checked with multiple gauges (cheap and expensive) and they all have similar readings to what the car is showing (typically within 0.5 psi).

I have a very accurate gauge and it matches dead on so yes they are accurate.

Does anyone know if the TPMS in a full size spare will register along with the four that are mobile?

A good question. They won't give readings until you are driving, I guess they get their energy from motion. Is there a sensor in the spare? Has anyone driven with the spare on and did it register on the TPMS?

It would be a nice touch to be able to see that the spare has not gone flat, it is the hardest tire to actually check and it is easily forgotten.

Good point and here is a reminder to inflate your spare as tires do lose about 1 psi/month!

^good points, i am Pretty certain the donut does not have a tpms. I have all the parts for a full size spare w tpms, will update if the spare registers while still in the trunk

Got my wish list racing gauge (accurate to 0.1 psi) and set LF to 34.9, RF to 35.0 and both rears to 37.0. TPMS read 35 front and 37 rear. After driving a few miles tires warming up, rears went to 38 almost simultaneously, RF went to 36 shortly before LF. I believe TPMS is very accurate.

Well I went ahead and set up a full size spare with OEM tpms and unfortunately it is not appearing on screen with the other four. Kind of a disappointment although not a surprise. As a side note, the donut is on an aluminum mag wheel with a slick black paint job. Anybody need one?? Lol

Is the LF at 34.9 by desire vs. the 35.0 on the RF?
Also, why set the rears higher?

I'd guess it was just done to check accuracy of TPMS versus his gauge?

My TPMS sensors are about 2 psi optimistic. A very accurate digital and old-stock Milton both say 35, the TPMS says 37.

The recommended pressure on the V8 is 33 front and 35 rear.
