Tire Recommendations

2014 Genesis R-Spec w/ 95k miles here. Bought the car with 8k miles and I think I've replaced the tires twice always with the OEM Continental tires.

The life of the tires is okay, but they sure seem noisy! I don't do spirited driving anymore and I'm in CA so no snow with a tiny bit of rain a few times a year. Also, I work from home since COVID, so don't even drive much anymore. I'm just looking for something reasonably priced (under $220/tire) that's relatively quiet (more than the Continentals) with equal or better all weather performance.

Any suggestions?

P.S. TPMS warning light has started coming on, seemingly because of the weather. I'm hoping America's Tire can just swap out the batteries or something.

What the coldest temperature do you get in your area?
If temperature in your area does not go below 50 degrees F, have you thought about hi performance summer tires?

I can't even think of driving on all season tires anymore after I tried summer tires in summer and winter tires in winter. And I still do spirited driving in summer because it is a lot of fun.

At night it gets down to the mid 30s here in the winter, with highs during the day in the 50s. In the summer it frequently gets into the 90s.

No snow. Not much rain. Winter (35-55 deg) is about 2 months out of the year. Most months average above 60 deg.

I’m not sure if your province requires the three mtn. peaks w/ the snowflake symbol, if they don’t, I absolutely Love these!

I think my suggestion to go with summer tires for all year driving would not work, but I think Lionorion gave you a good suggestion to go with HP or UHP all season tires.

I’m in California (USA) so we don’t have any tire regulations here. Thanks for the suggestion on the ultra high performance tires, but from past experience with an Audi, aren’t those typically more expensive and wear faster? I don’t need a performance tire for my driving style so I wonder why it would be a good fit?

Pretty much all worn tires are noisy.

If smoothness, quiet and wet performance are priority: Michelin CrossClimate+

If wet and dry performance are priority: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.


I have the 4S on my car and love them (and pilot super sports before that). Fantastic wet grip at highway-speed in Florida downpours, silly-good dry grip and a nice balanced lateral stiffness for driving confidence and road feel. Excellent tramlining resistance (despite my car's excessive factory negative camber). And the tread life is fantastic for summer performance tires. I got 40k out of the Pilot Super Sports, and so far the 4S are showing a similar wear rate.

I put the CrossClimates on a friend's car and despite the snow tire look they're much more quiet than the 4S, wet grip is similarly-chart-topping like the 4S. But they're a luxury cruiser grand touring tire with soft sidwalls, so you might not like them for canyon carving...

Perhaps the CrossClimate might be better for you in SanFran. If you don't mind the snow tire look, I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised with how they drive.

Thanks for the suggestions! The Michelin CrossClimate+ sounds like it would be a good fit, but looking into it, I'm seeing they only available up to 18". The 2014 R-Spec is 19". I'll do some Google searching for similar tires available in 19".

Thanks for the suggestions! The Michelin CrossClimate+ sounds like it would be a good fit, but looking into it, I'm seeing they only available up to 18". The 2014 R-Spec is 19". I'll do some Google searching for similar tires available in 19".

I have the 4S on my car and love them

I had 4S on my Genny for 3 and a half summers. Awesome summer tires. I bought them at my local Costco for $187 a tire in 2019.

But they were at the end of life at the end of this July so I decided to buy new set and went to Costco website. Holly smolly! The price was $300. So, they became cost prohibitive.

Guy at the tire center recommended Firestone Firehawk Indy 500. I read reviews on Internet and here I am, with the set of new Indy 500 tires for couple of month until I switch to winter tires in November.

I have been using Indy 500 on my car for two summers now. Fantastic grip on dry and wet! Particularly on wet my RWD car hardly ever spins unless I mash the throttle from a red light. They are a little noisy but nothing more than a typical summer tire.

Yes, that's what multiple reviews said about fantastic grip on dry and wet surface. As much as I liked Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tires I just couldn't justify to pay $300 per tire.

Same here, when I picked-up the Indy 500 it was about $140 a piece so was a steal compared to the Michelins. Happy driving!

PS: Just noticed you also have WS-80 for Winters. We have the exact same setup!

Good for you. I paid $184.99 per tire this August. And they still have the same price. Happy driving to you too!

So I put on the new dwso6 continentals I know I'm not gonna get the mileage they are rated for out of them but great dry and wet. Haven't tried them in snow yet though. Fairly quiet, great grip. Smokes alittle yellow if you roast them for bit

You’ll love them when the temps drop. These also get better after the first 1200 miles. Nice choice.

Mr Brady, I just bought 4 new General 235-50r-18 Altimax rt43 SL for my 2012 genesis sedan 3.8. last month. Got them from Tire Rack. So far they are quiet and handle just fine. Same here in San Jose, no rain, so don't know how they handle wet. But so far, pretty good, and reasonably priced.
