  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Today, I picked up my Gen V8/Tech from the dealer after the 1st scheduled service. Upon arriving home I parked the car outside and had a walk around to make sure everything is ok. When I glance down at the tires I noticed something not quite right. On the driver side both Dunlop tires seem to facing the wrong way. Most tires have a “V” shape thread pattern in the middle to channel the water out and away. The pointed end of the “V” is usually pointing forward.
On the Genesis, the “V” is pointing backward on the driver side and pointing forward on the passenger side! In other words, water under the tires on the driver side is push toward the center of the tire with no place to go – A great recipe for hydroplaning!
So I thought the dealer may have goofed when they rotate my tires. After thinkink this over I come to the conclusion that no matter how they rotate the tires two of the tires will always facing the wrong way.
I drove back to the dealership and look at the unsold Genesis on the lot. They are all the same. The “V” on the driver side is pointing backward and on the passenger side the “V” is pointing forward.
Can someone tell me are the Dunlop 5000 tires suppose to be mounted that way:confused: I can’t imaging Hyundai is mounting the tires the wrong way.

Since I don't have mine yet, I can't check, but in general the following is true for almost all tires:

If the tires are asymmetrical (the side facing out matters) they will be clearly labeled with something that says "this side out" or something to that effect.

If the tires are directional (the way they should rotate when the car is going forward is important) they will be clearly marked with arrows and the word "rotation" on the outside of the tire.

If the tires are both asymmetrical and directional, they will have both markings.

Never noticed this on mine, however it does not matter, as I've driven in many DOWNPOURS, and the car was rock steady.

The Dunlop SP sport 5000 M are NOT Directional,,,,

meaning the tread pattern and be mounted in either direction.

Wallymn is correct. The "V" you are refering to is Dunlop's brand symbol which is somtimes confusing because it is a point facing a certain way. The tires are not unidirectional and can be mounted either way.

I think OP is referring to the actual tread pattern, not the logo. Incidentally, I noticed this on mine as well. I thought it might be attributing to the road noise, but the good year dealer said it doesn't matter which way the tread is rotating on that tire. *shrug*
