To Genesis or not?

Good Morning...
I took my first test ride in n 8cyl 4d with tech package. The ride seemed a bit stiff, but not sure if that will smooth out with break in? Also, the salesman said the ride was identical on the 6cyl as was the power; both statements I found a bit odd? I also took a 3.8 coupe out but not sure at the age of 45 that i can justify it. My 3 previous cars were a G35 sedan, Subaru Legacy GT and a Civic SI. I'm not really sure what I am even asking here as I haven't decided on anything yet, but any input on the real differences between the 3.8 and 4.6 sedan would be appreciated. Also, can anyone give a realistic idea of discounting as both of the cars still seem pretty rare?

The suspension (ride) is the same (as far as I know) between the V6 & V8. As for the power, the sales guy is WAY OFF. The 6 cyl is rated at 290 HP and the V8 is rated at 368 (regular unleaded).

As for buying the Genesis , I would buy another one in a heartbeat. Everyone in my family loves the car. I like it so much I am even contemplating buying a 3.8 Coupe in the spring as my "toy car".

I will also be looking at the 2010 Sedan to see if it will be worth the upgrade.

Welcome aboard, Jeff. And thank you for signing up.. The suspension on the Genesis is a bit on the stiffer side - sort of like a BMW 7-Series sedan. It should be comfortable, but very capable at the same time. Isn't there a different suspension in the V8?

While there's a LOT more power in the V8 Tau version of the Genesis, 0-60 times aren't all that much different. We've seen the V8 Genesis hit 60 in 5.3 seconds and the V6 in 5.9.. They both perform similarly..

I think your salesmen could be better.

I found the 4.6 to have a smoother ride - I wish I'd opted for that. Unfortunately, the dealer didn't have any in stock.

As for power - the 0-60 times aren't far off from eachother. The V6 is quite powerful. I don't see the point in the V8 beyond bragging rights. Again though, the ride is smoother with the V8 (I suspect because of the weight difference) - you also get a different steering system and improved brakes. Further, you get the chrome door strips, LED door sill plates, upgraded leather, etc.

If I had it to do over again, I'd have waited for the 4.6 -- but certainly not because of the engine itself - it's not that much more impressive than the V6, but rather, for all of the other differences.

Those who have driven both say that the V8 feels faster and stops quicker than the V6, but for most the V6 is plenty (sub-6's in 0-60, plenty of evidence that you can get the 3.8 up to 140). The V6 gets slightly better gas mileage.

The price differential is not that big between the two, and if you try to upgrade the V6 trim to the V8 (illuminated sills, chrome), you're pretty close to the price of the 4.6.

I think it really comes down to personal preference, as neither has a significant advantage over the other.
