  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

In RTFM'ing, I noticed a reference to the Genesis being able to play DVD's when standing still....
Nahhhh....I thought....this car won't play a movie while sitting....
I ran in and grabbed The Eagles, "Hell Freezes Over" DVD.
HOLY Sheep Dip! The Eagles appeared on my dash and were rocking "Take It Easy!" What a wonderful feature!

On a similar note and back to my INfiniti....On the Infiniti board, they listed a "hack" to allow GPS data entry while moving. Effectively, this allowed full operation and data entry of the GPS while driving. (I know...It was unsafe....But Oh well.) All one needed to do was install a switch to effectively "jump" two poles. When one wanted to enter data, flip the switch, the GPS would freeze while on entered data, then enter the address, etc., and then flip it back and the GPS would catch up.
It was a wonderful add-on feature.
Any ideas out there?

Now that you've discovered your DVD functionality, make sure to set the Audio controls on both the Lexicon AND the Eagles DVD. Make sure the Lex is in Surround (in Settings), and the DVD is in 5.1 (DTS if given a choice).

Then go explore the world of DVD-A!

This subject has been beat to death in another thread. Net, Net...no hacks yet. The Genesis is software controlled so switches are not going to do the job. (or cutting/moving wires) It needs a software patch to make video operate in other than Park.

Well Ratz on the hack. Any software gurus out there?

If I understand you correctly, and if you are referring to being able to enter navigation commands while in motion, the Genesis can already do this, unlike Lexus which requires you to be stopped.

While driving back from Miami, I was able to locate a favorite restaurant (POI) and was able to enter it as a way point before my final destination, all while the car was in motion. (My wife was driving.)

Hmmmm. Let me try it again. Thank you for the great assist.
Ride cheerfully!

The trick what they do is cutting the wires for the parking brake to bypass. So it thinks the parking brake is on.

When you say it is software controlled you mean it is hooked up to the gps motion? More companies going that way. If that's the case it won't be as easy. If not than it should be just bypassing the ebrake sensor that's all.

The system could care less about the parking brake. It wants to know what gear the car is in. The video output to the screen is controlled by the DIS computer, just like your video card in your PC, that sends video to your monitor, is controlled by the PC CPU. The computer is basically "saying" when in Park, allow these feeds, when in Reverse allow these feeds (the backup camera), when in Drive allow NAVI only, etc. There is one piece of code describing the parameters under which the video interface will work. Since video in other than Park is illegal in many states, Hyundai will never change this, and getting access to this piece of code will be very difficult. If you could get it, and were smart enough to hack it, how would you insert it back in the car? (Think TSB Campaign T-63 here)

Quick question:
Why would I or anybody want you watching a DVD while I'm on the road?

On one hand, I can appreciate that point of view based on safety issues regarding the driver. On the other hand:

  1. I have been searching my states laws (Iowa) and haven't found anything yet.
  2. It would be nice for the Passengers.
  3. It would be safer than having the laptop open on the console, which may or may not be legal depending on whether my state has laws that govern that activity.

Clearly it's not safe for the driver to watch, and I'm sure some people would abuse it if available. It sure would be nice for long drives with the kids though.

Thanks,

Yeah than it won't be as ease. But again not impossible. I think maybe KP technologies can come up with something. Anybody contacted with them? They ususally have these things for cars. Among all the other goodies. They are located in Ohio I believe. They make really good products for good price and good support. They have their own forum and they support thru that or phone.

www.kptechnologies.com is the website.

Just curious but since we must be in park has anyone watched a whole movie on the dvd with the car idling or shut off? 2 hours of dvd with volume at say 10, with the engine off, I wonder if the battery could still start the car? I for one would not want to idle the engine for a couple of hours. However, I would like to let my wife watch something on a long trip. Maybe someday we might be able to get a bootleg dvd with a software patch that does not mess anything else up! Hope springs eternal!

Yes, while waiting for the wife to get off work. You will be constantly reminded to start your engine while watching a movie with just the ACC switch on.
