  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just purchased a 2015 genesis sedan. Barely made 100 miles and went to start the car in the morning and had nothing come on. Total electrical failure, no lights, nothing. Dealer said it is bad battery. But through my experience if your battery is diying you get some light on the dash. I had nothing. Has anyone experienced this? And what was found?

Others have had similar situation. With all the stuff going through the computer it is not like the old days. Easy enough to check a battery. If bad, replace, if good, check ground cables.

Most likely your battery. On modern cars with lots of electronics like these nothing turns on if its below a certain voltage. You can take your battery to autozone to test it too.

Oh yeah, if the original battery, probably can skip the test and get a new one.

The batterry had a sticker on it 11/19. I think the battery was just a couple of months old. I put in a new one, let's see what happens

Thank you for the suggestion. I changed the battery let's see what happends. I just google searched "Total electrical failure on a hyundai genesis" and got a bunch of complaints about electrical failures. Just worried that this will happend again in the future

When you changed the battery, did you take the positive terminal box off and wire grind the inside of the terminal connector? It's not got the best of designs and if you look closely I bet it's got some blackened/arced spots on it. I pull them off and make a heavy pass with a dremel flap wheel to polish the inside, it tends to help prevent further bad connections. The chintzy design isn't helped by the fact that when you put heavy things in the trunk, the trunk mat is supported by the positive terminal box underneath. This wiggles it and makes any minor problems worse.

It doesn't hurt to tear down the whole positive box and flap wheel all the connection points, Hyundai used nickel plated copper bars inside and just expects mechanical force to ensure a good connection at all the joints. A light pass to remove any arc pitting or carbon buildup will help things too- the connection to the main power cable tends to not sit flush and build up an arc ridge along the bolt.

Just an FYI- the $10 positive terminal ring costs $1200-ish and the negative cable costs $200-ish. You can't buy it separately from Hyundai and a dealer will happily sell you an entire main power cable assembly (with 5 hours labor) just to fix a bad electrical connection in the positive box.

Any update on this? I had this same issue this morning. 2-3 minutes later my car was fine.

Then I drove home, and locked the car, and boom total failure again. And the back window shade goes up by itself

I see things on here 2015 Hyundai Genesis Multiple Electrical Failure

Have you started with the basics like taking off the positive cable and reattaching tightly? If you're in a pinch just whack the trunk floor above the positive terminal box really hard, it gets things going again.

Yea I took the trunk floor out and got access to the battery and banged around on some stuff, its hard to tell without a 2nd person if its me giving the car power again, or it just turning on by itself. I'll keep troubleshooting, I guess its possible its the fuse box attached to the battery.....

Ever since I replaced the battery I have not had any issues. I say a little prayer every time I turn the car on. But so far so good

Going through the same problem. This year had many problems fixed at a dealership so not sure if there's any grounding nut flange that they forgot to install back properly or if it's the electrical connector in trunk. Only way to get things back up and running is to pull the positive connector out and put it back in. The connector that has red cabel and white plastic plug.
