  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is it only me that thinks the Hyundai Touch-up Paint Stick sucks??

The part number for the Hyundai Paint Stick is 00284-02009 (plus your paint code). The first time I used it, it worked "acceptable" (not great, only acceptable) but after that first use, it really sucks. I tried to use it today, and even after pumping the tip as instructed, the thing just does not dispense much (if any) paint.

Anyone know where I can buy Touch-up paint in the small bottles, with the built in brush? Dealers only sell that stupid stick (at a high price I might add).

Today, per the instructions on the side of the bottle, I removed the wick type tip, soaked it in thinner, and cleaned it up as best I could.

I also tried to add a little thinner to the paint in the bottle. Hard to do, as I had to drop a very little into the wick hole, then push a small nail into the wick hole to force the "door" at the bottom of the wick hole open, so the thinner could drip down into the paint. I then put the wick back into the wick hole. Did not pump the wick as I'm not going to use the paint again for a while, but next time I use it, the paint "should" flow down into the wick when I pump the wick. (We shall see what we shall see).

Sure wish I could just go to the Auto Parts Store, and buy a bottle of DupliColor with a brush.

Just got my first ding in the hood of my 2011 4.6. My wife thought I was nuts because it was not much larger than a ball in ball point pen wide X 1/32" long but I knew it was there. I went to the dealer with my VIN and ordered the $17.00 push pen tube of touch up. Do not purchase through an auto parts store because the color may not be an exact match! I would not recommend using the tip of the push pen to touch up small dings. Go to an arts and crafts store and spend the five bucks for a good touch up brush. Select one with short bristles as opposed to 1"+ so you have better control. I chose a 5 over 0 brush. Lacquer thinner and a good magnifying glass are also important. Its a good idea to prime nicks and chips if it is down to the metal. I put a few dabs of touch up paint on a small pallet and using the magnifying glass laid in the first coat. I gave it a few hours to dry and applied the second coat. I wound up with four coats of paint until it had completely filled the nick flush with the painted surface of the hood. I will wait a few days to ensure the filled area is completely cured and then using a very light rubbing compound blend the area smooth with the surrounding finish. This is very time consuming but well worth the effort.

Try automotivetouchup.com They match the color of your Genesis right to a T. I have used their touchup bottle and paint pen frequently for little nicks and the color is perfect. If you want to call them their number is 1-888-710-5192. Their prices are quite resonable too. They have 2 oz touchup bottles along with the 1/2 oz paint pens. A lot better then oem.
