  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I know there is a Curt hitch for the genny, and I know the manual says not recommended for towing. I also know that most North Amer cars say "not recommended for towing", so ignoring that one,
Has anyone actually put on a hitch and towed with their Genny. I am looking at a approx. 1400 lb boat, motor, trailer package.
Can this be done without an additional oil cooler, etc.

Thanks

I tried installing Curt 12086 hitch on my March 2015 build and it was 1" too wide.
Spoke with Curt and they at 1st said V-8 models have a narrower frame then the V-6, but mine is a V-6 so it appears there is a production change and Curt is designing a narrower hitch for the later models.
They said they would notify me when its available.
I plan on using it for a bike carrier.

Refer back to the older posts under "trailer hitch". My 3.8 was fitted with that hitch. It takes a good installer.

I think I recall your post - I believe your installer just "narrowed" the hitch a bit:) that would need a good installer!

Have you been towing anything or just using for a bike rack?

No matter whether you can get one to fit, I wouldn't. God forbid something happens while you're towing, Hyundai will point to the manual and tell you you're not covered. Oil and tranny coolers are always a must in my book

I was watching the entire installation, except for the two minutes the installer and his boss disappeared into their shop for all of two minutes. From what I understood, they probably just bent the two arms that attach to the frame inward very slightly. I couldn't see any change when they brought it back, back they were able to line it up to fasten it easily after that. Having one of these things installed is a little like making sausage. The result is great, but you probably shouldn't watch the process!

I've not towed with my hitch. I'm using it only for a bike rack. While I doubt that towing a light boat would be a problem (warranty issues aside), I suspect launching and pulling the boat out of the water might be. If you refer to the maintenance comments in the manual, you'll see that the differential oil must be replaced if that part of the car has been submerged in water.
