  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Would turning off the engine not have caused a loss of steering capability?

My wife and I actually own an '06 Sienna Limited and she asked me last night if we should consider getting something different.

Don't know about the 2010 Prius, but the 2009 Prius and earlier do not have a gearshift lever like a normal car, and I'm not sure that you can shift it back into neutral while going down the road.

As for turning off the ignition, when you are in trouble, going down the road at high speed, it is hard to remember (or be able) to push the start/stop button for a few seconds, holding the button down all that time.

In both our cars, I showed my wife how to shift into neutral if that ever happened to her in either of our cars. The Genesis is easy, just pushing the lever forward. The Continental first must push the button on the lever before it will move to neutral. She now knows what to do.

Yes, in most cars the steering will be locked for the few seconds it takes to turn off the engine then you put it in accessory mode to regain your steering. Should be no problem on a straight freeway.

You are my hero!!!!!

Re: Another Toyota Prius runaway today in Rochester, MN

Wow 2 in the last day or so! Crazy:mad:

Yep, what is that saying, "there are no coincidences"....

WHERE ARE THE 10, 30, 100 INCIDENCES FROM THE LAST 5 YEARS???? ... and not the one where the lady sells her runaway to an un-suspecting buyer..

Who knows what all the specifics are, and what will come, but...
