  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It there a way to turn this off completely? I searched and didn't find anything so sorry if this is a repost.
I don't want to keep pushing that button every time. I would like a default off, and on as a option.

Don't know your age or anything about you, so please don't take anything I say as insulting, OK?

1. If you've got a lot of experience with RWD cars (usually, older guys...like me, lol), I understand your being bugged by having to disengage. While it is somewhat annoying, it's also (to me) a good reminder. How? If it's a clear day with dry roads when I start out, I always disengage it. If it's raining/wet, I/m glad it's in default mode, as I personally, know someone who totaled his car from disengaging when roads were wet. He ran it straight into a side hwy wall while entering an on-ramp. And...he's an older guy who should have known better!

These cars are pretty peppy, and a slight error in acceleration during wet conditions can be dangerous. Me? I've intentionally tired to slide the car sideways (a little fun) with what I thought was enough power...and failed. I've also hydroplaned (scared the $%&* out of me) with much less acceleration in "similar" conditions. And yes, I have new, highly rated traction tires.

2. If you're fairly young (20's-40's), you may or may not have experience with the way a RWD car handles. This can be very dangerous, as the car behaves in a totally different way than FWD.

3. Bottom Line: I know how to handle a RWD car, as that's what I was "raised" on. However, the traction control feature on today's vehicles are definitely, beneficial....especially, in no-dry-road conditions. Basically, it keeps you from screwing up :-). Again, in dry conditions? It's always disengaged. When rainy or wet? I'm glad to have the lack of "preset", so I can actually give pause/thought to what conditions I'm about to drive in. In the end, I consider this a win.

I have driven cars that make these Genesis Coupes look like bicycles.
I consider this car a slow daily driver.
I have driven 9 second cars. My '65 Mustang fastback would toy with my R-spec.
If you consider a Genesis a fast rear wheel drive car you really need to live a little.
The Genesis is a fun daily driver with a annoying as shit traction control feature that needs to be manually turned off every time you start it.
Is there a way to disable this unnecessary feature?

Whoa, Captain! I guess my opening disclaimer about, not knowing anything about you, fell on deaf ears. Additionally, I didn't state that the GC was "a fast RWD car" (although, I DO find it peppy). I was actually referring to the gas pedal response on my own GC. I've seen it kick in the turbo MANY times when unintended. And the person I know who totaled his car, was also a GC owner, not just a guy who owned a car with TC.

But anyway, Rambo, I'd suggest asking the company or a dealer for this info. After all, I can only suggest that having to "push a single button" after startup is not really that cumbersome in the scheme of life... for most people, ya know? :). Good luck in your quest.

I don't need a electronic babysitter. I simply asked if there is a way to change the default setting.
You inferred that I have never driven a REALLY fast car.
I could give a flying shit what either of us have been behind the wheel of.
All I asked was if it is possible to turn off the babysitter.

You many not need it, but big brother disagrees with you completely and insists that you shall have it (ON by default):

http://www.nhtsa.gov/Laws+&+Regulations/Electronic+Stability+Control+(ESC) (section two/126)

So to answer your original question, without creating and installing an automatic defeat mechanism, it is not possible to permanently disable the ESC.

Since I live in GA and been on this site for a while, I am hopeful that I will be spared the usual "What is this country coming to!?", accompanied by all the customary colorful editorials (been there, done that..)

What is this country coming to?!!! :)

I also, reside in GA. And fwiw, I actually find it a bit annoying to disable this feature, but that's only because we have a 50/50 shot at dry or wet weather. I can still recall after first getting this car, that I was taking my grown daughter on a quick drive to the store and intentionally stepped on it....only to be embarrassed (Not really, but she knew my intention was to drive it aggressively pulling out...and she said, "Ooooh, embarrassing...":D), because I forgot to DIS-engage TC. There have also been several times when it was rainy...and I was "preoccupied" while leaving home or work and realized later that I'm glad I didn't have to think to "engage" this feature.

I'm just sayin'....no hate here. Hell, if I lived in southern CA, I'd probably, REALLY hate this feature. But here? Not so bad.

Again, to the OP: I don't know anything about you or what climate you live in, so I tried to cushion on the safety side. I thought that the preface in my reply was clear about that, but it seemed to be overlooked? It's all good....

I suppose there no escape for the wicked! :)

As far as disabling the ESC, I am right there with you sir, but at least in the Coupe, you guys have the ability to 'completely' disable this feature!

On the fist Gen Sedan we were not so lucky (it only delays the intervention). So back in 2009 not only I had to figure out how disable it on the 4.6 V8 (by removing a specific fuse), but then came up with a bolt on device that can wirelessly disable the ESC on both of my V8s, :D

Having said that, the Mrs does not have the remote to disable her 2009 for obvious reasons ;), as I keep both remotes with me (I have a 4.6 and an 2013 R-Spec).

If you are around //NE Atlanta, it will be nice to arrange a meet up, if nothing else just to see if that, not so little V8 R-Spec, can give its cousin a run for its money.. :p

LOL, I'm currently south of ATL (McDonough...4mths now, work related), right of I-75. I don't have time atm to search for the link, but you might be surprised at the 2.0 Coupe being faster in a qtr mile (I'm pretty sure that it is) :). Might even beat it in 0-60, but I'm not 100% sure.....can't recall. It might be the other way around, lol, but either way, it's a surprise to a lot of people. Oh, wait, the V8? Haven't compared stats, but the V8 is much heavier, so....I'll let you/someone chime in on stats. I don't think I ever looked at those.

Scroll down to genesis and you will find all your answers lol. Easier for you to compare then have me copy paste.
I found it interesting quarter mile was pretty close with the rspec 2013 coupe to v8 2015

Thanks for the link. I'd originally found a different one and I guess my memory was a bit...selective, lol. But yeah, you can see how surprising many of the specs can be between years & models. In a race, which some members/people here will tout as definitive (and they'd be right) count for everything. At my age, those same numbers are marginal. I mean, I really wanted a 3.8, based on younger years' cars, but settled for a 2.0.... mainly because of price. And in the scheme of life (for me), that 1 to 2 second difference in either category is really negligible.

I just like the car itself, along with more than adequate power for my "current" tastes/needs." Hell, after restoring a 69" Z/28 about 7yrs ago, I soon realized that current traffic in my general area didn't allow for me to run it as hard as I dreamed of doing. Every time I sneaked out to a favorite road to "get on it", the adrenaline rush was due as much to being busted, as it was to the ride itself. Yeah, I guess I'm getting older, lol.

Why can't people just answer the question on forums? If you feel you need to make a PSA then do so at your local high school or driver education class, not here...

Easy answer is "no"
Sometimes though, when people understand why a decision was made at the factory for a given startup they understand better and may even come to appreciate why. There is a very good reason the default is the way it is and probably most people know and understand it but I won't bother bringing it up for those that don't.

They are making cars safe...
I had 2 Lincoln mark viiis both had superchargers, both were fast, had trac loc in them. The 5.0 genesis is a well composed car. If you want a sports car buy a sports car. This is a luxury sedan. Whole different ball game.

I read in the comments about a bolt on wireless to disable esc but no info was given beyond the mention of it.
I'm currently struggling with the aggressive power cutout on my Genesis r spec sedan and found that turning off esc before start does nothing.
Any info about the wireless would be appreciated. I'm not trying to do the fuse pull run everytime and the dealership is useless
