If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi folks,

Long time lurker but not so often poster.

Long story short, I made the decision to trade in my 2009 4.6 Tech (mostly due to my wife's claims that the car was trying to kill her every time she took it in our canadian winters, but that's another thread).

Once again I was looking at the german cars (528i, 535, E400, E450, you know the drill) and I was underwhelmed and depressed at what I was going to pay for what I was getting. This was eerily similar to my experience when I was shopping back in 2012 and some crazy dealer said to me 'Come drive Hyundai's luxury sedan.' My childhood memories of Hyundai were the ponies of the 80's and 90's and the accent/elantra's. I remember when Sonata's were considered Hyundai's luxury car so needless to say I thought this guy was mad, but here I am, 8 years and 85000 miles later........

Now fast forward to 2020 and I go to test drive a 2015 3.8 AWD Tech (in Canada, it's basically the ultimate package without the dampening suspension and DIS controller. It also comes with the 14 speaker lexicon instead of the 17 but I am too deaf to know the difference.

I was blown away by the refinement of the second generation Genny. The ride seems a lot smoother/quieter, especially compared to the 4.6 which could get unruly at times. It definitely seems like Hyundai took a big step towards luxury. My new one is marakesh beige with the beige interior and while not my first choice, it's growing on me.

Couple of quick questions if any of you have a few minutes:

1. Is there anything I need to watch out for around the 45000 mile (75000 KM) mark? I am not really concerned as the car came with a comprehensive warranty until 2024, but would still like to know if there are any pitfalls people have seen.

2. Does Genesis connected services work on 2015 models or is it only the G70-80-90 generation?

3. Does anyone know if 18 inch steel rims clear the calipers in the front? My gut says no, but just curious.

4. I did test drive the 5.0 ultimate and I have to say I was underwhelmed and despite the obvious additional HP and Torque, I actually found the 3.8 much smoother. Did I just drive a dud or is that expected behaviour?

I learnt a lot about my 2009 first gen Genny here and look forward to learning about this one in the same way and hopefully contributing more in the future.

I also drove the 3.8 before the 5.0 but I thought the 5.0 is the best, and I could not do without it. The 5.0 gives it the power of a muscle car. For me, the 5.0 makes it what it is.

Completely feel you about the V8. I loved my 4.6, especially in the summer.

From the first test drive of my 5.0 AWD I was hooked. The 5.0 is just creamy smooth and quiet but is a beast when called upon but the AWD allows you to use all of it without upsetting the car's composure.

That being said, I decided to retire my 1998 Honda Accord EX 4cy "beater" car recently. After looking at various options out there I found that Genesis models had the best value proposition for me and bought a 2010 Genesis 3.8 Premium. It doesn't have the raw pull that my 5.0's have had nor the same engine purr, but its more than adequate for my needs. I'll use that car when the weather is crappy throughout the year and save my 2015 for the nice stuff. I'm usually in the sunny south during the harshest part of winter anyway, so not having AWD (but dedicated snows) at home should suffice. For what I paid, I would have been looking at a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord both with higher mileage. No comparison IMHO.

As far as 18" wheels fitting, I have used OEM 18" V8 first generation wheels on my 2015 (winter tires) and they will fit, but with the smallest spacers I could find. Without the spacers the wheel does scrape the callipers slightly. Not sure what steel wheels would do as far a clearance.

I've had a 2009 3.8, 2012 5.0 R-Spec, and my current 2015 5.0 AWD. I'm obviously happy with the job Hyundai has done with Genesis sedans! Hope you enjoy your 2015.

Well, you know I've been driving for 30 years and never had anything like the power of the Genesis 5.0, so it still feels totally indulgent.

I've had an array of 80s and 90s American Shvtboxes with low output V6s, various 4-banger German cars, a Tofas Shaheen, a Lada, a Fiat Palio, Citroen Xantia, Accords, Odyssey. Even the 4.6 CVPI has nothing like the pull of the Genesis.

Yeah... the 3.8 is adequate, but the 5.0 on full boil feels like the car is being shoved forward by a hydraulic ram - especially ~ 2500rpm & above! It just feels like it could pull forever.

And yes, I did drive both... The 5.0 could use a tiny bit of "burble" in it's voice, but that's kinda picking a nit.

Many cars don't look good in beige - even if it's offered. But the Genesis pulls it off. The 1st 5.0 I drove was dark metallic brown on tan which looked surprisingly sharp - unfortunately, I took an instant dislike to the sales guy & they wanted too much for it anyway.

Good choice, you’ll enjoy it. The color hides dirt well so washing may not be as intrusive as white or black. It’s a “luxury” car so I was fine giving up hp for a bit better fuel economy. Welcome

Congrats on your new acquisition...I too was satisfied with the power of the 3.8 RWD. My prior vehicle was a 2002 Acura TL..(225HP I believe). This 2016 Ultimate is from Fla that I purchased last fall and had shipped to me in Michigan. Since it had very low miles(13K)...and has not seen a winter snow/salt I have decided to keep it that way. It sits in the garage attached to a battery tender/full tank with gas stabilizer... until roads are salt free and snow has mostly melted. Luckily our winter this year here in southern MI has been milder than usual... so I have been driving her a bit more than I thought 'I would. Since I am retired I have access to my wifes ford edge to get out during those snowier times.Kudos to those that love their 5.0's... just wasn't what I needed at the time. I have noooo regrets in purchasing this vehicle...it is a fantastic car. Looking forward to taking a few longer road trips with it this coming year.Hope yours gives you many trouble free miles/years of use (y)
