  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A former Genesis owner was kind enough to provide me with a trailer hitch and wiring harness back in 2016, after he traded out of his car. It's time to pay this forward, as I've parted ways with mine. It fits the 1G model and includes the hitch, harness, drawbar, ball, all the hardware to mount it up.The folks at etrailer have excellent videos online to help in mounting the hitch yourself, or you can have it installed by the shop of your choice.

Only catch... you have to come get it. It's obviously too bulky to pack and ship, so I won't do this. I'm in Charlotte and can meet an interested party within a reasonable distance and hand it off.

Parted ways with my Genesis due to transmission problems. I really, really loved the car, made several cross country, Canada, and Mexico trips in it, and planned on keeping it. But, after 80K miles, my "bulletproof" ZF transmission turned out to be not so bulletproof. Estimates to R&R the tranny were too costly and when the overall value of the car was considered, it was time to move on. These cars can become scary expensive to fix out of warranty (mine was), but what vehicle isn't these days?

Anyone interested, let me know. :)

Bump.

It's been one month and lotsa views, but no takers. So, one last call for all. It's a freebie, you just need to arrange for pick up. Going once, going twice.....next stop is the dumpster.

Give it to Habitat For Humanity and let them sell it for supplies to build houses.

I did that with the hitch for an older Explorer, which they were happy to take. But they said they weren't interested in a hitch for a "low volume" auto. Go figure...

That is a generous offer on your part. However most people on this site are like me and have a latter model car and don't want to endanger their 10/100K warranty. I have no idea how many 4.6 V8 Tau Sedans there are in the Charlotte area but I assume not many.
Also, the way you worded your first post, It sounds like the hitch could have been part of the problem with the trans. No one wants that problem.
But thanks for the offer.

Unless you are towing heavy loads day in and day out, I don't see how the trailer hitch could cause the transmission to fail. Ones available for the Genny are class II trailer hitches, rated for 3500 lbs max. I would hazard a guess most owners don't need to pull anywhere close to that and probably not very often either. An occasional tow here and there won't hurt the tranny. Having a trailer hitch ON does not void the warranty.

I bought a trailer hitch (from etrailer too) and installed it myself back in 2011. The hitch mounts solidly to the rear frame. I rarely need it, but the times I do need to, it sure is great to be able to hook up my 4x8 utility trailer. With a 700 lbs motorcycle and so maybe 1200 lbs total loaded trailer weight, my 3.8L V6 pulls it like it wasn't even there. 4.6L V8 won't even feel it.

Kudos to the OP for the generous offer. Hopefully somebody will put it to good use. I'd be more than happy to offer any install help I can, if the new owner needs it.

Actually, the hitch had zero to do with the failed transmission. I received the hitch as a freebie and used it once... to hold a vertical bike rack. Never towed a trailer, that's what my F-150 is for! Probably spent more time installing/uninstalling the hitch than I used it. My intent with the hitch is to "pay it forward", since the car is gone and someone else might make use of it.
