  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone found a proper trailer hitch for the 2015 yet?
I have an under 1000lb boat and trailer I want to pull occasionally.
I know the manual says not recommended, however, the car will easily pull 1000lb without harming it in any way.

I used to pull this boat with a Dodge Aries (okay, I'm admitting I once owned an Aries:eek:

thanks

I stated earlier and posted pictures ... the 2012 hitch works fine.

I had a premium hitch installer in Toronto order in a Curt receiver hitch designed for the previous model after a call to the manufacturer "confirmed" that it would work with the 2015 including the AWD model. After dropping the exhaust system, the installer abandoned the install. Although the hitch lined up with the components, the frame rails were too narrow to fish the necessary fasteners through. The installer told me he could try some cutting and grinding to try to make it work, but he advised against it because it could weaken the frame. I wasn't willing to take that chance. I'd be interested in learning how the 2012 hitch was installed on car in the pictures posted by DavidA5913.

I would also like to learn this. I might be mistaken but I believe the U Haul hitch is the Curt hitch.

Just make sure it doesn't void out your warranty as the manual says this car is not made for towing.

As noted in an earlier post, I had tried in Toronto to get the Curt hitch installed on my 3.8 AWD Tech 2015 only to be told (after they dropped the exhaust system to gain access) that they would be unable to fish the fasteners through the frame rails. I'm in the Sarasota area for the winter and went to "Trailer Depot of Sarasota" on N. Tamiami Trail. They checked with Curt and were told that Hitch No. 12086 (made for the 1st Generation Genesis) was a fit and they ordered it in for me. I watched the entire install today and it's a little like making sausages. The result is great but the process is more than a little scary.

The installer was a former Hyundai mechanic which gave me some confidence as he proceeded to dismantle the exhaust system (not merely lower it as suggested in the installation instructions written for the prior model). In fact, the installation procedure was nothing like those instructions or the YouTube video you can see on-line. The result, however, looks fine and everything seems to work, so I'm happy. The whole process (parts and labour) was $335 plus tax. The price for the hitch was higher than you see on-line, but the labour at $75 was a steal when you see what has to be done. The moral of the story is that if you can find a good installer, it can be done. I'll be using mine for a bike rack only (for the record). I know the Genny is not rated for towing.
