  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone mounted a hitch of any kind to their Genesis? I was considering it not for towing a big load, but it would be nice to tow a small utility trailer or for some of the accessories available for receiver hitches (bike racks, etc.).

I put one on my 2010 4.6. It was a pain. Had to drop the rear exhaust system. Then the hitch has to be held up with 4 hands in position while it gets centered on the frame and holes marked. You need a 15" long drill bit to get the holes drilled and then use a fishwire to get the bolts inside the boxed frame rails. The rear muffler heat shields need to be trimmed to clear the hitch. After that you need a special wiring adapter for the light hookup. The hitch and wiring was about $175. Trailer hitch place charged me $75 and I had to help the installer. Took about 2.5 hrs between the three of us. Might be wise to get some mid pipe exhaust gaskets just in case they shred when you separate the pipes. Other than that, installation was a piece of cake. Watch out for steep drive entrances as the hitch hangs low enough to scrape some times. Always try to enter at an angle. The car itself tows extremely well. I have a small trash trailer, a motorcycle trailer and a 16.5' boat. Never feel any of them back there when I am towing.

Some cutting is involved. See attached installation instructions from Curt Mfg Inc., www.curtmfg.com. Draw Tite, www.draw-tite.com, also has similar instructions for their hitch.
