  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

even though i have warranty and i will be taking it in this week i wanted to see if this is normal.

under slight load for example on a slight hill when i shift into park i get a clunk in the transmission. I'm thinking this might be normal but i don't remember hearing it before.

No it is not normal.

If you're parked on a hill, put the car in park, let go of the brakes and then set your parking brake you will hear/feel a clunk when moving the transmission out of park as the transmission is supporting the rolling weight of the car. While normal in the sense that its expected, this isn't healthy for the transmission and its always advisable to stop the car, engage the parking brake while your foot is on the brake pedal and then shift to park (more force/weight distributed to the brakes).

If you're hearing/feeling a clunk when simply shifting between park and drive on slight inclines you may be experiencing transmission failure. My Infiniti G35 did this and the transmission started to slip within a week or so until the car simply wouldn't move without shutting down to let it cool down every 5 minutes.
