  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

I've got a 2012 Sedan. 93,3xx miles on it. I recently purchased it and I don't know if the tranny fluid was changed.

My questions is, should I take it to the dealership to get it changed (they'll charge $250) or should I take it to my mechanic to change it (he'll charge $150)?

What are your thoughts?

I'm going to assume your mechanic is a competent one you trust. Having said that, definitely take it to your indy. Tranny fluid changes aren't difficult to perform.

Any experienced mechanic can do it. What is critical is using the correct fluid. Check your manual.

Personally, I would trust the dealership since they will have an record of the fluid change if anything goes wrong or was not done properly and can be held accountable.

The personal mechanic route is hard to recommend, because if the local mechanic is not really trust worthy(who really knows) and then if something bad happens later based on a improper fluid change procedure than you will never know if the mechanic blames the issue on an aging transmission to cover it up and possibly charge you more to correct the issue caused by him/her self.
