  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This is for a 2015 Ultimate V8. Right under 6k miles.

Had an oil change the other week at a clients (I get free oil changes), and the shop guys called me over and showed me my car on the lift with fluid clearly leaking from where the engine/transmission meet.

Picture isn't the best, but you get the point.
Fluid

Dropped it off at the dealership yesterday. Today, they said they ran some tests including adding dye and they confirmed the dye leaked with the fluid. They say they'll need to keep it and possibly pull the transmission to see what's wrong.

Here's where it gets interesting. I ask for a loaner/rental, they say that they don't have any available and Hyundai has been stingy with rentals. They offer me to take my car back, and when I ask if that's fine to do, the adviser tells me I can drive because the leak is small, and there shouldn't be any issues for upwards of a month.

Ok, I get my car and leave. Around 30 minutes later, I get a call from the same adviser that tells me I need to come back for 5 minutes to sign some paperwork. I tell him I can't come now, but probably can swing around in the next few days. He presses me to come by later on after service is closed, I ask what the rush is. He says they're trying to finish up repair orders for the month. At this point, I am offered a possibility of a rental/loaner if I can come in today, and it is cited that the car is unsafe to drive.

WTF? Here you go, keys to the car to drive around. Sorry, it's unsafe. Bring it back and sign some paperwork.

At this point, i'm not too happy with the service I've received. I called Consumer Affairs and was transferred around several times and a manager finally explained that the regional office denied a rental, and that I should tow the car back to the dealership if it's unsafe to drive.

So, I get to do just that.

Keep an eye out for any leaks on your ends.

Hyundai Motor America does not usually supply free loaner cars, except in cases of a recall or other unusual situation (such as car likely to fall under Lemon Laws). Some dealers do supply them, especially Genesis customers, but dealers are not reimbursed by Hyundai. If dealer refused to provide one, I would have asked for any Hyundai demo (Sonata, etc) or even a used car.

If Hyundai wants to lure luxury car buyers they need to step waaay up.

This sort of treatment drives luxury buyers away. Frankly, I wish I'd known how poor service and parts treats the Genesis owner before buying.

Hyundai does not advertise that you get free loaner cars for Genesis warranty work. That freebee does come with the Equus (at least for 3 years, but not sure how long). Some dealers do provide loaners, but that is up to each dealer.

What is the build date on your car? It is located on the inside of the drivers door. Before I purchased my car I asked my dealer if they offer loaner cars when my car must stay in the shop more than one day and they said yes. I would not have purchased from this dealer if they had said no. It is a dealer service, not Hyundai.

Here is a link to the HPP warranty that covers for rental cars with limitations if your dealer does not give you a loaner. The allow up to $35 per day.

Note that per this warranty you get that rental car coverage with powertrain, gold and platinum plans: don't think that means everyone gets this.

Good point. Thanks for pointing that out. Whenever I buy a car I confirm with the dealer (in writing if necessary) that I will be provided a car free of charge if they cannot repair my car the same day I drop it off. Much rather handle it this way that to have to pay for it upfront and hope the warranty will cover it.

Build date was April 11. You would indeed expect a much higher level of customer service both at the dealership level and at the corporate level with a new 56k car.

Had it towed back to the dealership today, I'll keep you guys updated.

Any update on your tranny leak?

Thank You for the update. I here you on the 4 months into ownership deal. Sucks. I am going to request to see the underside of my car when I go in for the first oil change.

did they say the reason for replacement? You had no symptoms of a bad tranny just a leak? and are the replacing your tranny with a new one or rebuilt or remanufactured? The last on is important because it shows up on carfax I had a brand new cadillac and the tranny went at 4 thousand miles and Gm replaced with a emanufactured and it showed up om my carfax which hurt resale. Mac

I would demand a new one not a re-manufactured. Paying this kind of mulla for a car and to have a tranny replaced with so few miles, would warrant a new transmission I would think.

Gm wont even put in a new engine much less a tranny . I had spent $ 54,000 on a brand new 2000 deville and at 4000 miles tranny and all motor mounts were replaced . Still have that car tranny was never an issue again but I only have 50,000 miles on it still looks like new. Mac

I doubt that anyone in the USA knows how to rebuild the Hyundai Genesis tranny, or the engine for that matter.

No reason was cited as to why it failed, the transmission is going straight back to Hyundai for analysis. Perhaps the RO will signify where it was leaking from specifically.

I was told that it would be a new transmission, and it should be ready today. Regrettably, they haven't received the transmission yet.

After no contact from the dealership, I reached out to my advisor today (who apparently wasn't working today) so I touched base with the service manager. The transmission that came in "didn't look right" so they ordered a new one.

With no loaner/rental provided by Hyundai, I've had to extend my arrangements for transportation. What a service nightmare.

Unbelievable. Nearly two weeks and counting out of service.

There is no question that you should be getting a loaner. You should contact the regional office or Hyundai USA HQ

Do what I did when I had a Subaru Legacy gt 2011 that shook from day one email the ceo direct in my case I emailed the ceo of Fuji and in 30 days they bought my car back

Exactly - go straight to the top.
