  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm looking at purchasing a G70 3.3T as my daily commuter, and I noted during a test drive yesterday that there doesn't seem to be a way to keep the car in manual mode - is that correct? Every time I used the paddle shifters, the car would eventually revert the transmission back to D which I found very annoying.

If this accurate and there's no way to have the car hold manual shift mode, can that be changed/fixed through a TCU reflash?

Did you try it in sport mode?

Yes, I tried sport mode and when I used the paddles, the car would only stay in manual mode for like a minute before it reverted back to D.

In sport mode it should stay in manual mode with the paddles. The 2022 G70 3.3T SP I briefly owned did that, and so is my current 2023 G70 2.0T SP. But yes, no manual mode. In regular mode, it reverts back to D almost instantly. I think in sport mode it reverts back to D after an hour of driving, but it never happens in my case, as I regularly downshift to 7th in uphills, to avoid lugging the engine. The annoying thing with the G70 in sport mode is it doesn't up-shift to 7th until about 3,500 rpm, and it never up-shifts to 8th, so you basically have to use manual mode in sport mode on the highway (which I always do), but it might be annoying to others. The tranny lugs the engine badly in regular mode, so sport mode is a must IMO. My SF with a DCT upshifts to 7th and 8th fine in D mode. Not sure why the sportier G70 doesn't. Oh well. Anyway, I got used to drive in paddle more all the time on my Porsche, so I almost always use the paddles on both vehicles. It's more engaging too. And more aggressive downshifting than at 2K rpm when coasting recharges the battery quicker.

try doing it with traction control off? if you hold the button down for 5 seconds it will also take stability control off as well. I know that its just for traction and not specifically the engine but its worth a try. My gf has the GV70 and if you drive in sport plus mode it will NOT go back to D.
