  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Bob: Some say consult the owner's manual and some say not to service the transmission. I have a 2014 3.8 Sedan and I had the transmission and differential drained/serviced in the late 80K mileage range from new by the dealership where I purchased it. Quite a bit of discussion on this topic on previous threads.

@Bob N

I serviced my transmission at the dealership when Genny reached 101,000 miles. Cost me $400 and change.

I did the rear diff fluid and a trans dump and fill at 102kmi (as well as plugs, brake gluid and a coolant flush). Trans shifts better now.

Here are a few threads for the rear diff and services that I followed and contributed to along with part numbers and details with pictures ect:

Here are some Transmission threads I am following:

I plan on doing my Transmission service soon FYI as well with 2012 and about 86K miles.

Flush not recommended. Drain and service based on your model year. I had my initial drain and service(fill) at late 80k range. Check the owners manual. Lots of info on this topic. Read back thru previous threads. Hope this helps.

Yeah sorry, I meant to respond and say that for my '13 I had a drain and fill done at 67k, and also a flash reset on the TCM. My trans still shifts weird occasionally but it's hell of a lot better than it was last year. I don't believe that there's an issue mechanically with the 8-speed Hyundai transmission, rather it's some sort of software issue that occurs. People have speculated on this site before that the solenoids aren't correctly timed or something.

I’ve heard the same thing.

Why isn’t it recommended to flush?
According to the dealership technician where I purchased and had all of the service work done up to the 100K warranty, no flush suggested or required by the manufacture.
Some say flushing can force sediment back through the transmission?

...which then causes issues with solenoids.

My dealer's shop foreman recommended against a flush so I did a dump and fill and it has improved the shifting considerably if not completely. I'll chalk it up to the replenishment of friction modifier additive improving clutch behavior. But whatever the mechanism, I'd recommend a dump and fill as a first step to anyone who has any kind of shifting issues and hasn't done so within 50kmi.

I have a 2014 5.0 rspec with 54,890 miles. Should I consider atleast get some new trans fluid to replace some of the older fluid since I’m going to install an after market trans oil cooler ?

Might be a good time for a “drain and fill” during your modification.
