  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2019 G80 Sport AWD is down shifting hard into first gear as the car is coming to a stop. My car has 24,700 miles on it. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what did you do to correct this issue? Thank you in advance.

A replacement tranny for my 2018 G80 3.3T is being ordered.

I started noticing rough up/downshifts in lower gears and shudder/stutter 20->40MPH/2000->3000RPM around 30K miles. Took to dealer twice ~ 35K and 40K was told this is normal. Issue became progressively worse. At 55K I took it to local/non-dealer shop to have ATF fluid replaced. They hooked up diagnostics tool and took for test drive. Diagnosis was "bad transmission"/don't bother changing fluid.

Beginning of September 2022 I took to dealer. They kept it all day and determined torque convertor wasn't staying "locked up" when it should. Fix is to replace entire transmission covered by 10 year/100K "Genesis factory warranty and no cost to me. Dealer claims replacement tranny (new) is en-route. Scheduled for repair to be done week of Sep 26. I was told to be prepared for car being kept 2-3 weeks. This is outrageous IMO. Fortunately I'll be getting a loaner (or so I'm told as of today).

I am anticipating this is going to be frustrating experience. Dealer says they will keep me informed, but never get a phone call. I call and they say we'll get back with me same day. After 2 days I call and they say we meant to call you. I speculate warranty work is low priority for dealerships because they don't make as much money on the repair. 2-3 weeks is based on we'll work on it when we don't have other price gouging work to do.

This will be the 3rd time the engine is pulled (rear engine main seal leak/replacement and turbo oil line recall fix.).

that is absolutely ridiculous!! how could you possibly need a new tranny...my issue randomly occurred today, coincidentally immediately after I got new tires. there was ZERO tranny issues the past 20k miles, and all the sudden i have issues...I truly hope its a tire balance thing for me. For you, i wish you the best, you have the long warranty and even if its frustrating as heck...

Thanks for this post bubba, I'm experiencing the same issue on the one I just took delivery of. I'm not confident the Dealer will even diagnose the issue never mind agree to replace tranny under any warranty, they avoided Hyundai Extended Warranty issues I had with my 2015 Genesis. Will let you know hw it goes.

Update.
My 2018 G80 3.3T HTRAC/AWD is STILL in the shop getting the tranny replaced. It's been 4 weeks since I took it in. Work was finally started last week. I stopped by the dealer repair garage last night. Engine and new tranny are attached. Engine and entire drive train is still sitting under/out of car. They won't commit to a completion date. I do have a loaner from the dealer (2022 Subaru Outback) but had to contact someone else at the dealership to reserve/beg for it.

I periodically have to call the dealer to get status. If I can get through to my service representative, they don't know status and say they will get back with me by end of day. I get no call back and have to call back 1-2 days later. I get the typical excuse the mechanic is being pulled off to do other work.

They are meeting my expectations. I expected delays, procrastination, poor communication and overall terrible service experience. This brand won't survive even with 10 year/100K mile drivetrain warranty with this poor service.

RAVENOL ATF Automatic Transmission Fluid SP-IV RR 1L for sale.

Cleaning out my garage I found 10 x 1 Liter bottles of UNOPENED Ravenol Automatic Transmission Fluid SP-IV RR 1L. I bought this for my 2018 G80 Sport, but traded it in earlier this year. I originally paid $14.95 per liter and it's selling for $19.95 today.

Make me an offer via DM, otherwise I'll dispose of this at the local auto parts store.

Consider yourself lucky, at least yours is being replaced. Genesis Canada has REFUSED to acknowledge or cover this exact issue under Warranty. They just quoted me (all figures in Cdn$) $1200 to do a Transmission Fluid flush, and $9000 to replace the Transmission.
