  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone else experience the transmission slipping on the 3.8? I have the AWD and it wasn't wheel spin or traction control kicking in.

I had it 3 times, not a lot, but all within the last 2 weeks, the first two barely noticeable and while driving at highway speeds (to the point where, I was asking myself was that the tranny slipping?), but the third, last night was when I accelerated hard to pass someone, and it slipped (engine RPMs when up but car did not move forward appropriately) then there was a loud bang, which lead to it being engaged fully.

I was not able to reproduce it after that though.

Car only has 14,000 miles on it (2016), yes still in Warranty, but now I need to get it to reproduce it so I can show the dealer (no CEL or other warning lights).

I searched and haven't seen any real complaints about it other than a few in the 1-2 shift and some slip for the first gen and some 2nd gen cars.

Maybe your situation is in line with those in the thread "Transmission lurches 2016 Genesis"
But there doesn't seem to be any resolution for that thread.........

I have only had it happen once in first few months after ownership and thankfully it hasn't happened again. My RPM's maxed out even without my foot on the gas but the car wasn't accelerating like WOT, only slowly gaining speed and then the BANG! It was so loud and the car shook I looked in my rearview for parts on the road. Once it shifted it went back to normal. Drove with a camera in my car for weeks after that trying to capture it on video for the dealer but nothing happened again. I did disconnect my battery overnight in an attempt to reset the computer. Not sure if that helped or not.

Thanks RyanB that is very similar, the bang was really crazy.

Thanks NC356, I did not see that thread in my searches, it sounds very much the same except mine happened around 50mph
