Transmission will not engage in drive

I have a 2015 5.0 sedan. Got home from work to pick the wife up to go eat and my Genesis will engage in reverse perfectly, but drive is nowhere to be found. Drive is basically neutral. Tried to manually shift to 2nd and nothing. Currently sitting at 147k, and I haven’t felt anything weird going on transmission wise up until now.

Any common issues that I could check for? Haven’t had any luck searching so far.

Just an update. Got a scanner hooked up today and no codes are set.

Anyone have any ideas before I punt and send it to a shop?

That's a head-scratcher for sure. One would think a code of some sort would be present....

I am no transmission expert, but I have that happen with two automatics units i owned over the years. Both of the transmissions had reverse but no forward gear. Both of the transmissions needed to be rebuilt due to some forward clutch failure. No transmission code ever displayed. I believe the only code you may get from a transmission issue would be from a bad speed sensor,shift solenoid, or TCM; not for internal mechanic damage.

The damaged transmissions in the used cars I owned never had a fluid or filter change per the transmission repair shops that rebuilt them; hence the failure. Transmission shop owner told me to always change transmission fluid by 60k miles and filters by 100k miles, because lifetime transmission fluid/filters means only about 100k miles in the real world before crap happens.

Did you ever change the transmission fluid and filter in the 147k miles?

Funnily (not so funny) enough, my 2015 just did the same, but not even 54k on it. What was the ultimate result (and if I may aak, what'd it set you back)?

Had it towed to the dealer closest to me (which also had the shortest expected wait time to be checked out: 72 hours, vs up to two weeks at others). Now waiting to hear back from Hyundai Corporate, but still paying for a rental car on my own dime...just renewed for a third week.

Called again today. Customer Care agent said that the last CCA did not escalate (?!?!), but it has now been escalated... still 3-5 business days for a call from a case manager. Renewed rental for a fourth week. Grrrr.

Update: corporate finally approved the warranty work 1/6, dealer got parts 1/13, but still two weeks before they think they can work on it because they have so many Sonatas in for warranty engine work, some waiting 3-4 months.

Gotta say, love the Genesis, rock solid for first 7 years, but the dealer service departments (I've been to four) have all been abysmal.

Update: corporate finally approved the warranty work 1/6, dealer got parts 1/13, but still two weeks before they think they can work on it because they have so many Sonatas in for warranty engine work, some waiting 3-4 months.

Gotta say, love the Genesis, rock solid for first 7 years, but the dealer service departments (I've been to four) have all been abysmal.

2 out of the 3 Genesis "dealers" that I've been to here in Houston were awful. Getting parts & such was OK, but they were totally not interested in selling you a Genesis. A friend of mine was thinking about a GV70. No one approached us after parking in the "Genesis Only" space and spending a solid 20 mins checking them out.

Hi, Lavasurfer. This happened to me just today. Reverse is fine, but no drive. I'm interested in seeing how your situation works out. I'll post back on my own experience.
