  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Cause: Trees losing leaves
Remedy: Cut down trees

I had it with every car for 40 years in my previous house. We had a lot of trees.

Ha ha. Not helpful. Car is garaged. Live in a forested area. The leafs blow in somehow and get caught, poking out between the hood and front quarter.

You can call it non-helpful, but it is accurate.
They come in from between the windshield and the hood (the area where the wipers are). The ventilated area on the right side (right side if you are seated in the car facing forward, left in the picture) is the fresh air inlet for the climate control. There's no way to block off that area.

The same thing is happening with "older" model. I have a '18 and to get rid of them, I had to remove the bracket with ECU/TCU, vacuumed and put it back.
I thought, I had a nest in there.

Thanks joegr. That’s definitely helpful. Got the car in late November. The leafs get up into the upper fender well area and then protrude through the edge of the hood on both side. Looks stupid on such a beautiful car. I’m going to see if I can at least block them from protruding by putting a

Any comments?

That might work. Just be careful blocking any areas that could restrict airflow or water flow.

If it happens when the car is sitting, maybe put a tarp over it. If it happens when the car is driving, not sure what to say. Sounds like you live in a beautiful area with lots of trees.

FWIW, I have found leaves under my hood and all my cars, forever.

Depending where you live, pine needles too. Can't see them when driving and I don't lift the hood often enough to be concerned about them.

Yes, pine needles are a pain! They get down into the system and can clog things up. I'm about a hundred miles west of the piney woods in Texas, but might move out there some day.

Yes, be careful not to block air getting to the climate control inlet. If you create too much resistance*, it may be able to suck some air from the engine compartment, which could have fumes in it.
*: If your gasket is better than the gasket between the engine compartment and the rest of that area.

Funny, I’ve never had a vehicle that got leafses under the hood.

<humor>
1) Leaves come from trees.
2) Leave are looking for warm place to hibernate over the winter like mice+cats.
3) This is a 1st world problem.

My girl is garaged when at home. I get on average 5->6 leaves under hood (corners near windshield) per year, mostly during fall/winter. I clean them out as part of my normal cleaning/maintenance. I've gotten a few leaves under the hood of every car I've owned and all where generally garaged when at home.

Do be careful about blocking openings in the car. Auto engineers design cars for specific airflow for proper engine and HVAC functionality.

I just got a used 22’ G70 3.3 and immediately noticed the huge leaf/stick buildup. I used my dryer vent cleaning hose that attached to my vacuum. It sucked out about 90% of the stuff. I ordered mine off amazon for like $20, it’s a narrow long hose that can reach into the engine crevices really nicely!
