  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Trim Discoloration

I'm an OCD schmuck and have done TCC's (the pro stuff from pro installers) AND PPF on all my vehicles in the last 15 years...
I used to detail my cars myself, it was very cathartic.
Can't do it anymore...

But your description of the trim, related to TCC is a bit scary.
I wonder now if it's actually oxidation, or some other process.
Oxidation requires oxygen which means the TCC would have pores...
And if the TCC has pores, it would offer little to no protection....
Things that make you go F--K.
My use of term oxidation was misleading. I can only speculate on what is causing the discoloration (ultra violet Light, oxidation, neighborhood dog urinating on my trim at night). My understanding is true ceramic coating (TCC) does completely seal the surface. This would prevent oxidation (i.e. rusting). I was unwilling to spend +$100USD on the TCC. I still find car detailing cathartic.

I’m not sure what they used, but my dealership polished all my trim pieces when I took it in for service. So there must be something that works to clean those stubborn things

I used the Chemical Guys Spot Remover (orange gel) and it worked great! I have a 2018 Sport in Himalayan gray and it took about 3-4 application and some elbow grease (my trim was never replaced so it was built up and way passed warranty) but this stuff works, very satisfying to see those spots disappear!!
