  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone used this from start to finish for a "no haggle experience". I am HIGHLY suspicious of this "service" and dealers that use it, so i made a poll. Looking for specific experiences from start to finish. Even cursory googles suggest the entire program is a scam to get people in the door and thinking they are committed so they won't leave (not the first of it's kind there, that's for sure). At the same time there seem to be genuine and heartfelt thank-god-for-truecar reviews with enough bad grammar and misspelled words to make them seem probably legit.

edit - one of the most super sketchy/ok this is a scam things I see right off the bat is that they won't tell you who the dealers are without giving out ALL your info, and even then, you have to commit, print the "certificate", and prepare to be assaulted by phone before you even find out who it might be. In the case of Austin, there are limited dealers, so I know that the price I liked was at RR Hyundai, but I sat with my mom during her purchase and they would have worked her over HARD had I not been there, so I am already expecting a battle.

the guy that started trucar was on the smoking tire podcast a while ago and explained how it worked from both the dealer and buyer ends - it was very interesting and might be worth a listen.

never used them and probably never will.

Use Truecar pricing as one of many data points in deciding what the best deal is for you. There are many other sources where pricing an be shared and Truecar is one source, although it is now a dealer-participated program which may taint the data. I would use there pricing, but skip going through them.
