trunk and horn

Re: trunk

It's important to give a a "shout out" rather then just complain too. So even though my dealer hasn't fixed the trunk problem, yet, they are working to do so. I must add that they didn't just give me an older Genesis to drive, they loaned me a loaded 2012 4.6 which we have now taken on vacation. I love the 8 speed. The car doesn't ride as nice as the Equus, still too stiff for me, but it's nice ... Really nice and most all of the features my 2009 didn't have are now there! (if Hyundai would just "back lite" the buttons on the rear view mirror, so you could see them at night, they would have hit a home run! Ok, I know the dealer is suppose to loan a Equus or Genesis when your "horse" is in for service but My dealer is really trying to upgrade their customer service.:D

:mad:7 days in the garage and the dealer could not duplicate the trunk opening problem. Not surprised! First it takes 2 people, most of the time, and only one tech opened the drivers door and hit the door locks switch. (Most of my occurances happened while a passenger was attempting to get in at the same time the driver was outside unlocking the other doors with the unlock switch.) I think its a bit difficult for one tech to be on both sides of the car at the same time(Only one time has my wife been alone while unlocking all the doors and the trunk opened also.) :( The case number with Hyundai remains open too but there hasn't been any communication from one Region to another. The only 'comm' has been to my local dealer! Both refuse to believe that there has been any previously reported "trunk openings" to Hyundai! Im trying to figure out who to call next. The Customer Connect Center, doesn't connect! Im beginning to think that since they have no replacement parts they don't want to take a part off another car because then they couldn't sell that car until parts were received from the factory!:mad: Any advice?

Re: trunk

The day after getting my Ultimate back from Hyundai service, 7 days there, the trunk opens as my wife starts the car. Reported this to my dealer for the 6th time! Today they suggested that I change the trunk valet switch setting ... They must have read this forum! I know the tech is trying to correct this problem but he sure isn't getting much help his contacts. I may have to give the car back and get a 2012! (I wish)

Was she using her fob or yours? Did the dealer have your fob or hers?
You get where I'm going with this?

I believe the FOBs have been taken out of the problem, both were left with service, and the trunk issue has happened to both of us with our own FOBs in pocket/purse.

Re: trunk

I've reset the valet switch, on then off again NOT leaving it on/armed as suggested here and by the local tech. We've used the car 4 or 5 times now without the trunk popping open. I'll also add Hyundai is supposedly sending another specialist here to look at my car.

Hey no I don't have a trunk problem yet ...but look at my post....

Electronics in car a joke ... Mute,freeze,etc...give up !!!

Hi ya guys .... I have spent much too much time on this & my 2010 v8 w/tech does the same thing ipod freeze, audio no sound, does not work but after parking it comes back !!! Well I hate to give you guys the bad news but in my opion the electronics in the car is just CRAP and nothing can fix it. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO CHANGE THE WHOLE SYSTEM IN THE NEW CARS COMING but that does not help me or you. So I have a little battery panasonic radio on the floor in the back & when my system goes out I just go battery fm radio...... and wire headset for my phone ( so I don't get a ticket) and call it a day !!! WHEN MY LEASE IS UP I'M DONE WITH HYUNDAI . oh yea I must have sent 25 emails to Hyundai usa & only got one answer ... he said I will get back to you ! ...still waiting it's been a few months ha,ha,ha but I must say other than the audio system I like the car very much ......... BUT I LIKE MY MUSIC MORE IN THE CAR !!!! I DO A LOT OF DRIVING ALONE SO TUNES ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO ME !!!! THE NAV ALSO TELLS YOU TO GO WRONG WAY !!! I DON'T USE IT .. JUST CRAP AT LEAST AROUND NYC ..... I WANTED TO SAVE A FEW BUCKS AND GOT WHAT I PAID FOR !!! BMW HERE I COME 18 MONTHS TILL I GET MY NEW BMW 535I CAN'T WAIT ...GOOD LUCK !!

After one month of owning this fine machine, I have noticed that the truck problem is occurring more and more often.

I have notice that it often happens when one of the two fobs is in the horse and the next person with a fob opens the door, as they unlock again, the trunk pops.

I cant get it to do it constantly, but working on it.

If anyone knows of a fix, please let us know.

I finally received a call from my district service and part rep regarding the trunk popping open problem. After a shouting match where he insisted this problem had never been previously reported i repeated the story for the 6th time?? He wants me to activate the valet switch and leave it there. I agreeded to do this for a week claiming I shouldn't have to trouble shoot their problem for them or be inconvienienced by using a key to open the trunk...for an unspecified time. I neglected to tell my wife about the valet procedure, it's her car, and she panicked not being able to put groceries in the truck. (she's over her anger, thank God) Anyway, we've had no recent occurrence of the trunk opening, and now I've returned the trunk valet switch to normal. I'm wondering if just the previous recycling of the valet switch my have temporarily solved the problem?

I keep having random occurrences of this problem.

It now happens even if I'm alone.

Very annoying after you finish filling the gas up and enter the vehicle just to step out and close your trunk.

I will try the valet parking thing for a few days and let you know.

If you do find a solution please let me know.

To all those who have had a trunk pop open while car is parked either overnight or whatever. I bought my equus 2011 ultimate the day they came out for sale. The trunk problem was solved for me when they put in a new module. It is a very expensive module so they try not to go in that direction. I have not had any problem with the trunk for months. One more bit of information. Do not leave your keys in that key pod in your glove compartment for any period of time. Somehow because you can start your car, if the battery in your key fab dies by putting it in that pod, it is tied to the cars electrical system. My battery died when I left the keys in that pod for a week.

Don't know if anyone ever got their trunk opening problem solved. I had the same problem with my ultimate. Finally discovered that sometimes when entering or exiting the drivers seat my knee or more likely the knee area of my blue jeans was lightly brushing against the the trunk switch and thereby opening the trunk. That switch appears to be more sensitive than any of the other switches located in that area of the dash and the slightest bit of pressure activates it. Never felt my knee actually touching the switch but after figuring out what was happening I make a conscious effort to avoid letting my knee or pants leg come in contact with the switch. The same thing can happen if one is just sitting and/or driving the car and lightly brush against the switch-don't have any idea anything has happened until you happen to clance in the rearview mirror. I spoke to the service department about placing some sort of guard over the switch or replacing the switch with one that is not so sensitive-have not gotten an answer back yet so I guess they have not heard back from Hyundai regarding my complaint

On further thought and investigation-two dash indicators light up when the trunk opens but that does not prevent one from accidently brushing the switch and opening the trunk. As I stated before clothing, especially heavy clothing, like coats, brushing against the switch will open the trunk. I think the switch is just located in a bad spot.

I'm always amazed at how spoiled and lazy we've become. Technology is supposed to be our servant, not our master. I hope divorce papers won't be served is the seat heaters fail to work.

I fixed it!

I stopped hitting the button with my knee when I get in.

Thats all folks!!!

How is that possible? My knees don't come anywhere near the lower dash on entry or exit. Anyway, since recycling the trunk valet switch in the glove compartment and resetting the auto door locks to lock when the car is put in gear, all functions have been normal. Don't know why this would be the fix but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I will change the door lock function back to unlocking only the drivers door for entry though to see what happens.

Everything was fine until yesterday. Its been almost a month since my last post on the trunk problem and I thought reseting the valet switch and door opening settings had eliminated the trunks opening by itself. Just for the heck of it I changed the door locking function from off to the gear shift and bingo, twice during the day the trunk opened after driving out of parking spaces. After the second opening I went to my dealers service department. There the trunk opened, the second attempt as I entered the car to try to duplicate the occurance. The service manager insists I hit the switch with my knee on entry. I dont believe I did but arguing got me no where. Funny, all the other times Ive entered the car, the trunk hasnt opened and the problem only re-occured after I changed the auto door lock operation that same day. "They" just dont want to fix the problem. "They" want to blame it on driver entry or exit. BTW, the factory rep was at the dealership while I was there and "they" wouldnt let me speak to him. The service manager said he would phone me by Monday but he doesnt know what if any thing he will be advised to do.:mad::mad:

Today I phoned the Equus customer connect center ... again. Was really not surprised when the girl "slipped," by telling me she would open a new case number. (Hyundai had closed the previous one, opened 9/28/11, even though nothing was fixed.) She did however still have all the information that was previously reported.:o Everyone wants to phone me back, sometime??? but no-one will commit to what to do next. "Like change the trunk module??" I was going to remove the trunk open switch on the dash, but then decided I'd ask Hyundia service to do that!! IF it aint there, its hard to "brush with clothing or your leg!" In the mean time, I've wedged a small piece of plastic to act as a guard into the seem next to that switch. (Tooth pics would work too.) Apparently thats the only way I can prove we're not bumping the switch! Hell, opening the car door and having the trunk open before entry isnt hitting the switch either but other then the tech who works on the car, their all idiots. The tech really wants to help me but the service manager is very difficult to work with. ... I'm really beginning to dislike Hyundai's operation.

Grit:
Quick question. Have you tried setting the doors to lock at 8 MPH (or whatever that low speed is)? Or tried using the lock door function on the armrest before putting the car in gear?
Just trying to troubleshoot, not saying these are the answer.

I believe I've changed every door lock and unlock function several times. My wife has driven the car several times now with the current setting so today I document position setting and change them again. I've also molded a guard to fit over the dashes trunk open/closing switch rather then ask for the switches removal. Now it is impossible to "bump" without knowing it or to accidentally active the "sensitive" switch. Btw, the whole problem started when we unlocked all other doors, with the inside door switch...before putting the car in gear. Thus the unlock setting had to have been set to initially only unlock the drivers door for entry!:(
