  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The silicone deteriorated on the trunk handle, so I order a replacement. It's as simple as disconnecting two connectors. I replaced with the new one and the trunk does not open manually (by pushing in with hand), key fob or the trunk button inside vehicle next to the steering wheel.

I have then decided to try pushing on the lock that's in the glove department. That doesn't change anything.

Any idea on how to get the replacement to work properly?

Does the old trunk latch work? If so you may have a bad part.

I plugged the old one in, and it now does not allow the trunk to be opened by keyfob or inside vehicle either.

Hmm, it may be a short in your wiring harness, and the rubber cover disintegration a coincidence. The rubber cover is a known maintenance issue. Look a threads related to the wiring harness since neither switch works.
