  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

From the moment i bought my car trunk was hard to close. I figured that was the "feature" of genesis and didn't think too much of it, although it was inconvenient.

However, several days ago it became real pain in the ass - i had to slam the trunk as hard as i could to close it. I finally realized that something was wrong and checked the hook that latch locks onto - the screws were completely loose. Here is the pic:

Now the question is, how to get to the screws? Do i have to remove the whole plastic thing (marked 2 in the pic) that covers trunk lip (or whatever it's called)? That small plastic part (marked 1 in the pic) prevents me from getting to the screws and is somehow connected to the body of the car (you can see it in the pic, it doesn't let go on the left) so it's not possible to remove without removing big plastic part.

The problem with big plastic part (2) is that it is connected to the body of the car with 2 round plastic pins, i have no idea how to remove them.

I tried to find anything in hmaservice.com but couldn't. Can someone help or point where to look? Thank you!

Meh, of course i broke one pin completely and damaged the second one but i don't know if it's even possible to take them off cleanly. It's amazing how far the screw was out:

Will have to ebay the pins:

The trunk now closes perfectly - no force needed at all.

The opening looks like a right-angle ratcheting screwdriver might have worked without removing the plastic molding, but I could be wrong.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
If still under the 5 year 60k warranty, why did you not take it by the dealer and get them to do repair free? My dealer would have had that fixed in 20 minutes while I had a cup of coffee.

Put some locktite on those screws before you put them back in.

It's out of warranty, bought it used.

Yeah, i was thinking about applying threadlocker but i didn't have any at the moment. Anyway, if it becomes loose again i know what to do now :)

Lowe's and Pep Boys have a good selection of oem pins. I have purchased many form them. Also, if you know folks at your local body shop they will have them; my body shop has given them to me free from time to time.
