  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2011 Genesis 4.6L sedan's trunk only unlatches when the remote or inside switch is operated. Is there a spring, counterweight, or other "lift help" incorporated in the design? The lid is a relatively heavy lift for an elderly female senior citizen.
On the other hand the 2011 Sonata's trunk lid opens about 12 inches when the remote is activated & lifts to fully open like a feather.
Hyundai Customer Service says "take it to the dealer". And the dealer says there are no adjustments for this on the 2011 Genesis

Unfortunately what you describe is normal. When I "pop" my trunk it unlatches and raises maybe 1/4" I believe there are actually hydraulic struts rather than torsion springs (even though the trunk is on goose neck hinges/can't see for sure with the trunk liner in the way). So the dealer isn't going to be able to do anything for you since it's "normal", but if it is struts you could try to get some stronger third-party struts.
