Trunk liner handle latch/Cargo mat sinking

Hey everyone,

My 2015 5.0 has a broken handle latch for the trunk cargo cover that covers the spare tire. I also noticed that the trunk area sinks down a little because there isn’t anything except the spare tire to hold it up. Is this normal?

This is what my trunk looks like. Is there a part number for the styrofoam tool holder? As you can see the handle is also broken.

The handle is a common "weakness" on the cover... So cheap for such a nice car!!

If it were me, I'd go the salvage yard route. Not a high demand item and you could probably get it, the tools and the cargo cover for cheap.

On the other hand, you could probably buy a slab of foam at the building supply and whittle it down to make a reasonable facsimile.

... or do what I did - put a full size tire/rim in place of the limited service spare and remove the styrofoam completely. I then put the required tools in a soft bag and stored it in front of the spare. Great to have a regular spare! (especially with me still having Conti's on the car)

I had a blemished 19" wheel from my 2012 R-Spec that will fit the front with a thin spacer and the rear without a spacer, found a used front Conti for $100 so I'm good to go. In fact, when I travel long distances I still pack the OEM spare as a second spare just in case I blow two tires at once. (yes - it's happened before with this car!). The older rim doesn't use the same lug nuts as my current wheels so I pack a set of the tapered nuts along with the tools.

i'm changing over to a full size spare now after noticing the front wheel fits in the same space the temp spare fits. I'm also pretty sure the front rim will fit the rear of the car fine.....considering my dealer put the front size tire on my rear wheel and i didn't notice for about 8 or 9 months when the same tire blew out....but its okay they got to replace it for free due to their screw up. also my temp spare has tread separation after only being used 2 times now. screw that little temp spare. i'm thinking about new rims for my wife for valentines and then using one of the old wheels/tires for a full spare.

the handle is designed to hook on the inside of the trunk "gutter" to hold the liner up while you access the spare:

I’ve got all the parts and pieces, but my liner is not strong enough to support a heavy load of groceries. It still sags and slides towards the front of the car such that it slides off the narrow “sill” at the back edge of the trunk. Has anyone had this same problem and found a solution?

The molded styrofoam tool holder is what supports the cover from sagging with weight.
