  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any suggestions for a quality, trunk mount bike rack for the '15 Genesis?

I've been using a receiver mounted Saris Cycle-On Pro for years, have never used a trunk mount so this is a new experience. I do occasionally carry my bike long distances and that is a consideration. Weather is, finally, hinting of Spring (although snow is forecast for tomorrow afternoon!) and I am getting the cycling fever. :)

Thanks.

Why not just pull the wheels and put the bike along with its wheels in the rather large trunk? I don't think I'd want to put anything on the trunk lid.
Were I you I'd stick with the Saris mount system or look into some type of quality aftermarket roof mounted bike rack. Better yet, find a cycling buddy with a pickup truck and not worry about messing up your car.
Keep thinking spring - this winter is getting a bit long in the tooth.

Commodore, I share your concerns re: mounting anything on the trunk. That's why I was hoping a forum member could recommend a trunk mount rack that they had used on their Genesis, and were comfortable with the paint/body protection plus care of the bikes. Thanks for the suggestion, but removing wheels and placing in the trunk will not work for me for a variety of reasons. Trunk mount racks have come a long way, still doing my research and will eventually pull the trigger on one I feel comfortable with.

I wouldn't trust a trunk mounted bike carrier not to mark up my trunk.
I transport my bike all the time by removing both wheels and putting everything in the trunk. You might have problems fitting the frame in if you have a Huge bike (over a 62cm frame).

I've used the same Saris rack on an Audi A3, A4 sedan, and a 4Runner with the proper adjustments. IIRC, I put a towel between the lower pads and the plastic bumper on the Audi.

I would think with the wheels and pedals off you could even put it in the back seat area.

Maybe you could install a trailer hitch and use a hitch mounted bike rack.

This is what I have used with 2 road bikes, However my road bikes are about 17 pounds each so I can't comment on heavy bikes. I have not seen any damage to the truck with this bike rack. I used this on both my Sonata and Genesis with no damage to the trunk lid. I can post a picture if you need one.

Ed, thank you for that info and suggestion. Saris Bones is a rack I have been reading about - it gets very good reviews. I will be carrying a CF frame Cannondale Synapse road bike and occasionally an Al frame woman's Cannondale Synapse, so we have a similar requirement.

I've also been reading about paint protection film which some have used for roof rack protection, but I haven't read of anyone using it for trunk mounts. My rear bumper already has the factory protector film in place. Wondering how obtrusive a small patch or 2 of film would look on the trunk lid.

As long as you are careful you will have no issues. Trust me I had similar concerns myself when I used it on our sonata and even greater concerns on the genesis. The rack is EXTREMELY solid also both road bikes are carbon frames so losing a bike off the rack was another concern also. The only thing I got extra was some long velcro straps to keep the front wheel and pedals from turning on the bike and to keep them from banging on the back of the car. I'll see if I can take some pictures for you so you see what I am talking about.
