  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I find a very strong odor in the truck and it has been there since day 1. I have a 2012 V6. It smells pungent and almost like a burning odor.
Any ideas?
No - nothing was left in the trunk!

Do you have the Genesis trunk mat back there?

Battery or spare tire.

I've had -what I'm thinking- is the same smell in mine since day one. It wasn't anything I've smelled before. I guess I've just gotten used to it!

I have a Genesis mat and no odor. And yes, I'm resisting the urge to say anything about the current search again for Jimmy Hoffa's body.

Leave the trunk open for a couple hours with a box fan set in there. I imagine that should flush out those pesky odors. Probably best done in the garage with the door down, as neighbors would certainly wonder just what/who had been in there -and for how long!
(I'm reminded of... "Now go home and get your F**kin' shine box!" -Billy Batts)

Stop transporting dead bodies back there.

A friend will help you move. A *good* friend will help you move a body.

Battery acid.

Make sure the battery drain tube is properly connected to the battery and routed through the bottom of the truck deck to below the car so it's not spilling acid or venting fumes into the trunk compartment.

Pull up the deck panel, spray an ammonia-based cleaner (Windex) all around the battery, bottom of the deck panel, etc. and let sit a minute. The ammonia will neutralize the sulfuric acid. Then wipe dry.
