  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

After a minor 5mph rear ender, the bumper on our 2010 was replaced due to a ridge line caused by the reinforcing bar behind it.Previously if the car was locked, the trunk would open if you walked up to it and pressed the release button on the trunk lid if you had the fob in your pocket. Now you have to press the fob unlock button as per manual to get it to open, which is a pain with a load of groceries.
Is there anything that could have been affected when the bumper was replaced or when the car was hit? The damage was very slight

Hidden damage was not repaired. Take it back to the repair shop and tell them to fix it. If you told them you wanted to get out cheap then any additional work is on you.

There are multiple antennas for the car-to-fob communications... including one in the rear bumper. When you push on the exterior trunk switch, the car transmits an identification request command to the fob via the bumper antenna. If it receives the proper code from the fob (via the same antenna) it unlocks the trunk.

It's highly probable that your car's rear bumper antenna is not connected. It might not even be installed if the repair shop didn't move it from the old bumper to the new.
