If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Last weekend I got done grocery shopping and my trunk wouldn't open on my 2015. I tried the valet button in the glove compartment and no go. Wouldn't open with the fob, with the button on the trunk, or with the driver's side dash button.

I get home and try the valet button a couple more times and it works, so I figure that was it. Well again today it won't open. I hadn't touched the valet button or driven since the weekend so nothing should have changed. Messing with the valet button doesn't do anything this time which makes me think that wasn't the problem the first time.

I can open it manually using the key from inside the fob.

Any chance this is a wiring harness issue? I know that my driver's side reverse light is also out. Which makes me think I probably have breaks in the part of the trunk wiring harness that flexes.

Any suggestions for good wiring and connectors to splice in?

Most likely both your issues are related. Do a search here. Lot's of info on how to fix your problem.

I would say its the trunk harness. I had the same issue when i bought mine 2nd hand but instead of the trunk it was the reverse camera. There's a stupid bracket Hyundai added that keeps the harness snug but over time it ends up pulling apart the wires. All you have to do is remove tht bracket and splice in some jumpers good as new. I linked the thread below give it a read.

+1 to it's the harness. My trunk button and one of the turn signals and brake lights were out on the trunk. I had the wiring harness replaced under warranty.

Hey folks. I am having the same issue, but worse. Fob, button on trunk, driver's side dash button, all produce the same result. It beeps like it is trying to open but doesn't. Sometimes It starts opening like half an inch and stops. When it does this I can't even muscle it open. I can't even get the key to open it. It's not the valet. It's also intermittent. Sometimes it'll open. Sometimes it won't open at all. Extremely frustrated.

This floor wiring harness issue seems to be the only answer that makes some sense, but I am wondering, if that's the issue, would it beep like it's trying to open? Or would it produce no sound at all?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I assume I will need to take it to a shop at this point, but would like to have some general ideas to tell them when I go.

Thanks!

To be clear, it won't open at any time? Like it either does nothing but beep or opens slightly but stops after half an inch?

That doesn't sound like a wiring harness issue. The trunk actuator only has two wires, a positive and a ground. In my case the ground wire was broken so the actuator wouldn't do anything. It doesn't really make sense for it to have enough power to start to unlatch but then stop. Either the wire is broken and the circuit isn't complete, or it's not. It seems more like the actuator is broken. The actuator is basically just a motor that pulls a wire to unlatch your trunk, then the gas struts push it open (unless you have the option with controlled open and close).

With that having been said, it is odd that using the key to manually unlock your trunk doesn't work. So maybe it's the actual latch and not the trunk actuator. You push the button, the trunk actuator activates and pulls the latch wire, but the latch is broken and doesn't unlatch, if that makes sense. Likewise, you try to the key to manually unlock but the latch is broken and won't unlatch.

It would be great if someone had a wiring diagram they could share. Hint, hint hint.

It sounds like he has the power opening and closing trunk. It has way more than two wires involved.

I don't have full diagrams.
