  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Trunk won't open!

Wish that was my problem. Alas, it is not. Relay clicks when pressing the button, but still no dice. I'm down to broken wires and trunk, or the latch itself has burned out.

Thanks to warp08 for the assist from way back in 2009. Wow, I've owned my 2010 Genesis since Dec 2009 and never knew about the valet button (didn't know about the truck keyhole either, lol). FYI - Best vehicle I've ever owned. It's basically still in mint condition and still runs great.

Did you U ever figure this out? I am having this problem right now with my coupe. When I unlock the trunk by the fob or button inside the car I hear the release but trunk still doesn’t open.

09' Genesis 4.6 sedan. Fixed mine by releasing the wires on the passengers side, after the hinge connection. Cut out the hot wire a couple inches after the connection and a couple inches before the inner body connection and replaced. Not my best work, since it's difficult to contort myself in an inverted position, in the trunk. Especially when it was 20° outside in late November. I had actually planned on replacing all 6 segments of wire, but the one did the job and has worked ever since. I did not reconnect to the rear passenger body panel, because that seemed to be the reason that the wire had a break. Taped the 6 wires back together and good to go. It doesn't seem like it bends the wires too much, but if you use the trunk often enough, obviously it does.

Did you make sure the valet trunk override button didn't get accidentally engaged? It is inside your glove compartment and will completely disable all electronic release of the trunk.
Thank you! I was going nuts lol

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!! THANK YOU! I put something in the glove box, and must have bumped the switch. All is now right in the Genesis world again ....

7500 miles, and I love it ...
Issue with the truth release has been fixed there is a lock in glove box check to ensure it hasn't been locked

Nope on the older models there is an issue with the wiring. As in mine…I have cleaned out all the connections in the back and the trunk lid but when I try to open, I can hear the front relay and that is it. Rarely it will open but is very weak. I may try to change the relays in front but for the last 2 years I have to open with the key…old school

It might be worth it to lube the trunk latch surfaces to see if it helps a weak release. Intermittency could be caused by a bind.

That worked for me too. I checked the fuses and was ready to purchase a new trunk mechanism.

14yrs old thread ... and still helping 😁.
I tried & checked everything .. although I knew about the valet mode buttun but it didn't click in my mind untill read it in here to remind me of it.

Wow was this was the answer!!! I’m curious what the purpose of this button is for tho… thank you for the knowledge, grocery pick up will be less of an interaction opening my truck with my key lol

Anybody else had this problem? Upon returning from the airport last night, the trunk would not unlatch. Smart keys worked fine, door locks would lock / unlock, but the trunk wouldn't open.

Tried the latch on the trunk itself, the remote, and the trunk release on the driver's door, all to no avail. Finally rescued my luggage and briefcase by going in through the rear seat compartment and releasing the manual latch with a ski pole!

The good news is that it's scheduled for 7,500 mile service on Monday, so I can easily have the dealer look at it ... just curious if there's something obvious I've overlooked ...
inside the glove box on top theirs a small button for the trunk.

Thanks! Mine WAS the override button. I was about to start fuse hunting!
