  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was replacing the turn signal in my 2015 3.8. These incandescents burn out every 6 months or so. This time I was replacing the driver's side one and noticed the inside of the plastic had an almost burnt look to it. The contact was also charred. I used my Dremmel to clean off the contact but I heard these things burn out fast because of a voltage issue. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this and if they know what causes it.20220904_155302.webp20220904_155438.webp

They pull double duty as DRLs and turn signals. Im assuming you keep your lights on auto. These lights are the only ones on the car that are not led. They are the old incandescent style. They run really hot. That's why they burn out so often and char the socket. I believe they are 28w. If you switch to the 1157 style they drop the voltage a little and last a bit longer. I was tired of taking both my air boxes out so I switched to leds and wired in some resistors to prevent hyperflash.

I'm using 1157A's. I tried replacing them with LEDs but those drop-ins didn't work.
Ya they never do. I ended up wiring up one 50w 6ohm load resistor to each side. I got a 4 pack from Amazon for about 10$ . It was relatively easy. The length of wire that came on the resistors was too short. I had to de-solder and solder a longer piece of wire to them. Then I drilled a small hole in back of the headlight cover to run the wire thru and using self tapping screws I secured them to the frame. It sounds a lot more work than the actual process. The hardest part is trying to fit your hand inside the housing. I had mine in since March and they haven't hyper-flashed yet. The resistors get super hot so mounting them to the chassis is a must. Btw if you go this route throw away those red wire taps they come with. They are absolute garbage and make a bad connection.
EDIT: These might be a little bulky but will save you from having to tap into the OEM wiring. You won't be able to use your headlight cover tho. Resistor Harness

So, by installing that resistor, those LED dropin's will work? No more burnouts every 6 months?

I've had my LEDs over 2 years

Ya the LEDs will work with the resistors like a normal bulb will. They will last a lot longer too.

Cool! I guess that will be my next fix.

My LEDs have worked for about 4 years with no voltage regulator...
Only had to switch the leads on one side

Just don't use the auto headlights during the day. Keep the daytime running lights off. I've never even burnt out one bulb in over 4 years
Viable alternative. On the opposite end, you could replace the entire housing with one from 2016 Genesis.

I use 1157LL amber bulbs in place of the stock bulbs. From what I can tell from the stock bulbs; they was not long life rated bulbs(LL) that are up to long term use a DRL.

1157LL bulbs are rated for DRL use, but they will probably burn out every 2-3 years when used as DRL which is normal for incandescent bulbs. The 1157LL bulbs may last twice as long(4-6 years) with the DRL turned off.

Do not use 2357LL bulbs since they are brighter, but last half as long as 1157LL bulbs.

Drop in 1157 LED bulbs usually has a short life(but longer than 6 months) as well. Maybe 2-3 years when used as an DRL before the circuitry goes bad due to heat.

I don't see these available in amber, just white. I see 1157A's that are filled by Long Life (I assume that's what the LL means) but when I do a search for 1157LL, those white headlights only come back in a search.

Here is the bulbs I bought for my Genesis a year ago.

Sorry to post this in this thread BUT I had a different question, which I posted yesterday and it still is labeled with "Awaiting approval before being displayed publicly." Since this, obviously, isn't my first post, I'm wondering why it needs to be "approved" and why it's taking so long to get approved. If it's breaking some rules like URLs to external sites or images, I would expect it to tell me the reason. I tried looking for a way to contact an admin but no luck.
Has anyone experienced this before and/or know of a way to get this resolved?
(UPDATE): I found a link to send a message to the admin. Seems when I posted a link to my own post it said new members weren't allowed to post links or images. Since my post did include these, I just created a new post without them seeing that I can't seem to delete my own posts nor can I send links to the thread in the message to the admin. :ROFLMAO:
