If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I wanted to share my experience with the AIRBNB for vehicles site, TURO(used to be relayrides)

I've rented from the site before and of course treated the vehicle like it was my own (2010 Aston martin vantage)

I received a request to rent the car during labor day weekend, since i've heard stories of some making good money from this and my car sits 4 days out of the week I agreed to it

My first sign of something being amiss should have been the 115 dollars in toll charges with 3 days..but I was unaware of that until after I agreed with a 3 day extension making it a week rental.

on the return date the car was brought back after dark so I could see what lied until the next morning, But I knew already that the Woman drove a total of 2199 miles in 6 days, 1050 miles over the set limit..So that charge alone was 824 or roughly double what the car rented for

the next morning was when I see the the body damages

Left side front and rear bumper isnt sitting flush

One wheel has major damage and will not hold air for longer than 48 hrs

two wheels have light damage but also have the same air issue

dents and scratches here and there and some major deep scratches on the left rocker panel (had to hit or run over something

I'm still dancing with Turo's insurance adjuster but the damage is to the tune of 6,000 dollars

3900 for the body work
1800 to replace the wheels
300 for a interior detail

OH, i forgot to mention that while looking in the vehicle I came across some pretty bad looking fake credit cards

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Boy, does that suck. I don't think I'll ever use a service like this just because of the possibility that something like this happens... I hope everything gets situated quickly.

Ouch...thanks for posting this and condolences to your damaged beauty :(

I also listed our genny on Turo, but have not got a bite yet. Probably because I priced it at $200 a day with a shit ton of rules (drive at an angle over bumps, no traction disengagement, etc.).

How much did you list yours for? Did you put things like "no smoking, pets, clean car before returning, etc."?

Keep us updated on your claim process please!

it was @ the time going for 89 a day due to dynamic pricing

The renter most likely used fake credit cards to pay because most people would have an issue paying over 800 dollars in excess fees.. the renter also has disappeared since then but left behind 3 clearly fake cards

I charged 1.00 per mile over but you have to collect that on your own, turo will only bill the customer for .75 a mile

the no smoking is listed in their TOS..I did explain about the going over bumps, gas and cleaning the vehicle

I'm still waiting on the adjuster, everything is done online with me taking pictures of the damage, then playing the waiting game

Participating in the AIRBND program is the dumbest auto thing I've heard.

Yup - crazy! Buy a nice car and then rent it to complete strangers? Why? It's a disaster waiting to happen!

Check out Turo services in Los Angeles, CA. Members rent out Porsches, Range Rovers, Audi R8, Tesla's, etc. All of which cost alot more than our cars. Turo is for the most part safe, but there are some scammers that get through the cracks.

Those of us who let our cars sit for weeks like to make money off of it. Plus, we get to pre-approve renters before offering our car to them so it's not a complete shot in the dark.

My thoughts exactly, it sucks that I have to deal with this but my tires were already @ 4/32's and I wanted to go in another direction as far as wheels go

like i said above what made me put my car on here was me renting an aston martin from a local guy

They have an insurance option that covers everything which I now put on the car vs the standard which didn't cover exterior wear and tear...Depending on how they handle this insurance claim will determine of I put my cars back online

Wanted to update this thread; Turo finally settled the claim today for 19% of the body shop estimate.

They used some tricky language thats buried deep in their terms and conditions, Like you have 24 hours from the end of the rental to file a claim but this claim must have everything thats wrong because if your car is returned at night (like mine was), you file a quick claim on friday with the issues you were able to briefly see before running off to work but don't actually get into a detailed inspection until sunday..Well your Screwed.

They also DO NOT INSURE AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT including wheels!

I would strongly suggest for any of you guys who do have your genny listed to remove it

2 things....

1> You need to call a lawyer. 2 weeks ago. Do this. Today. Now.
2> Are you outta your ****in mind??? Da hell were you thinking, renting it out to complete strangers like that? Not to be a dick - and I will not go so far as to say "you got what you deserved".... but I will say - are you honestly at all surprised??? I sure as hell am not.

I will just leave it at that.

Considering that they probably used a fake credit card, and the damage they did to all four wheels, it sounds like they pretty much did drive it off a cliff.

I guess one thing that could be done in the future is to ask the renter to show the credit card used to rent the car, to make sure it is not a fake card with a cloned magnetic strip. Sort of like when you buy something online for pickup at the store, they ask to see your credit card when you do the pickup.

I've found a backdoor way to bill the customer for the remaining balance so i'm handling it that way, as for the wheels.. I removed them and put the OEM's back on as planned on getting new wheels for spring 17 anyways..

I removed my vehicles from the website, this was on only time it was rented anyway as richmond isn't a popular area are this type of thing

Not trying to be a dick but thats exactly what your sounding like..Shit happens..yes I rented out my 45k dollar car to try it out..People do the same thing to million dollar homes.. I rented a 200k dollar Aston martin from this same website and had a great experience so that's what I was thinking!

My car is 2 1/2 yrs old and not even 40k miles so i was thinking why not make so extra cash while it sits

yes i didn't do my due diligence in terms of reviewing everything i needed to and now karma came and took me for a ride..

My car will still be fixed without any money of out pocket from myself and Silver surfer (my genesis) will still have some new wheels for summer 17
