  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

1) The trunk carpeting belongs in an Elantra, not a Genesis.
2) The door over the gas cap seems to be made out of plastic, instead of steel.

Besides these two, I can't find any other faults.

Have to agree, especially on the gas door.

Haven't noticed the gas cap being made of plastic, and I am opening and closing it everyday:p:p:p maybe the steel rusts, I do not know, but not a big concern for me.

Also, I do not know what the carpet looks line in a Sonata or Elantra, but I had the dealer throw in a Hyundai cargo mat at N/C, so I do not see the carpet.

But I am enjoying the car immensely. The most fun one can have for a 1.40/litre of gasoline.

Enjoy your new car as well.

Not the gas cap, but the door.
.
Even my old Elantra had a steel door.

The trunk carpeting is reversible so its rubber on the reverse side. Nice touch I thought.

Now that is something I haven't read yet about this car. Cool option...

The reason is that a plastic door probably coats 5 cents to make, and the steel one, 25 cents. As for the carpet, I'll probably get a Weathertech liner before winter.

Hmm.. Well Hyundai owns their own steel refineries, and while I don't know the costs of making a part like that, I can't imagine it's much cheaper to mold something out of plastic than it is to to stamp out a 4" square.

I would guess it's probably weight-savings related.

Why is the gas door cheesy? Is steel superior in some way in that application? Seems like plastic makes more sense... Like bumpers went from steel to plastic, and that was better.

And by lookin at it, you'd never know that it was plastic anyhow. I guess you have to be an exclusive member of the Genesis group to ever know that it was made of plastic.:p

Plastic does not rust is lighter and looks just as good

OK. So I know this is reviving an OLD thread that should probably stay dead. LOL. But I could not resist - The fuel door on my 2014 S550 Merc is plastic. Just saying :)

The exposed edges of a steel door are just one more place for rust to show up.

I've never seen a rusty gas door on a Hyundai.
I've seen them on GM cars though.
It's just that the hinge is also plastic, and the whole thing could snap off if you bump against it in winter.

The stainless steel window trim has rust and needs to be polished, looks Cheesey to me. Should have been Black or Quality Chrome plated. Same for the SS Exhaust trim. 3000 miles and can't clean it. Tried harsh chemical carb cleaner on a towel and cleaned some not all. Very thin Paint on the vehicle.

Agreed on the thin paint. Like Infiniti and Volkswagen/Audi.
