  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, for the last few days, the buttons on my key fob weren't working when I woke up in the morning. I would go up as close as possible and press the buttons and nothing. I could, however, use the button on the door handle to unlock the car (after about 2 tries with that button). Then, after driving the car to work, the fob buttons worked for the rest of the day.

So I thought, ok it has to be the fob battery. Take the battery out, test the voltage...2.8V. So it is a little low. I replace it with a new battery reading 3.1V. Well, now the keyfob doesnt work at all. I switched the batteries back and still nothing.

So it seems as though my keyfob has shit the bed. What do y'all recommend. I am using my secondary key fob now, so no rush.

Second issue is with bluetooth. The volume of my bluetooth calls defaults to 25 with EVERY call. It pisses me off because I cant hear the person until I turn to volume up to 30. I would like to set the default at 30 but the car doesn't have a goddamn setting in the phone settings area.

As a matter of fact, that area is SEVERELY lacking in any options. The only "settings" I have is auto pair...that it.

TIA everybody. Let me know what you know!

Check the polarity when installing the battery in the fob. Is it one or both fobs, the car came with two?

Mine does the same with the call volume....and i own a new 2012 gen....

If you have less than 60,000 miles the fob should be covered by warranty.

Have you tried placing the bad fob into the slot in the dash? It may need to be paired after swapping the battery.

The manual doesn't say anything about having to re-pair the smart key after battery replacement. As I understand it, the slot is used to start the car when the battery is weak, presumably because it creates a more direct connection between the fob and the car's electronics.

When I call someone, the initial "ring" sound is way too loud for me. By the second ring, the level is lower, as if it's auto-adjusting. I agree that this should be a user setting, though.

I have thought about the fact that it needs to be re-paired with the car. Thus, I am going to visit the dealer today. Since there is one just 5 mins from my house. Even though it is that giant douche Fuccillo :/

Well, took the fob to the dealer today. They RF tested and took my VIN and are ordering me a new one under warranty. It will be here later in the week. At least it's getting fixed.

One of my fobs was a little intermittent. When it works it'll have a range of around 100 feet so I doubt the battery is dying - and there never was a warning on the car dash of weak fob battery. The fob needed a "smack" to start working sometimes. I've since popped it open and noticed the battery contacts are tiny metal arms/ears... flexing those to grip the battery better took care of the issue.

When your new fob arrives the dealer will have to program it, your other fob, and the car all at the same time. You can't program a new fob to the "old one's" code. And your old fob will then be useless; you can only pair 2 fobs to the car so even if bending the battery contacts is the fix on your car too you won't be able to keep a 3rd/spare fob programmed to the car. At least that's how the repair manuals describe the process.

Bluetooth volume: since your header says you have a later model year 4.6 I assume you have the Tech package. The early versions (mine is an original 2009) do allow both ring volume (adjust it with the head unit's little rotary volume knob while it's ringing before you answer the call) and then adjust caller volume after answering... and mine remembers both settings. If this is what you do, and your car doesn't retain the settings, then it's probably a software issue or a back-up power (fuse) problem. The various software levels in the entertainment/nav systems over the years are remarkably inconsistent. Hyundai/Lexicon seem to fix one thing and break or loose some other feature in the process. Folks that have had 2009/2010 systems get updated software have reported loosing certain Nav functionality like the distance-to-next-turn icon in the lower left corner of the screen. Other than older map data, I think my car's original 2009 operational software is probably the best out there - I don't WANT any upgrades! The Bluetooth spec is also poorly implemented by many devices - both cars and phones. Maybe my car's remembering the volume is because of the type of phone I use... it might do the 25/30 thing with your phone model too.

But, you can keep it as a future spare in case something happens to one of the two which is programmed to the car.

Thanks for the info. I bent those metal tabs up to contact the battery better. The entire fob is just completely dead. I realize that I have to bring my car and my fobs in...no biggie.

I have a 2009 with tech. I will try that before I enter a call. Might work. Adjusting it right now only adjusts the volume for that particular call and I lose the settings once the call ends.

KEY FOB ISSUE - I had the problem where my remote would only work intermittently. The dealer even replaced the rf receiver in the car and it didn't fix it. But I figured out the problem and the solution. The battery is too loose in the remote. Just put a thin spacer on top of the battery and put the remote back together. I used two small, compressible adhesive hangar pieces, one on top of the other, that I bought in a roll at the 99 cent store. Examine the battery holder compartment carefully. You need something like a quarter inch thick spacer for the battery to actually be forced down onto the terminals. A design defect in the remote.
