Two zone Heat/AC

I'm still trying to understand why/how you can have your dash controls set to AC and yet you can get blazing heat out of the rear vents. I have not yet tried to get simultaneous heat in the front and AC in the rear. Anybody tried that?

So, what's the scoop? Do we have a two zone climate control system? Or, is engine heat being sent to the rear? Hyundai is strangely silent about this in the manual. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if some owners are blowing heat out the rear vents, unknowingly, during the hot AC season weather. As Yul Brynner said, "It's a puzzlement."

There are two wheels in the center console that the rear passengers control. One wheel turns the vents on and off and the other controls the climate. The back passengers can choose hot or cold. Fiddle with the knobs and report back.

The rear seat heat is controlled by a control on the back of the center pedestal.
( facing the rear center seat passenger ) The selection varies from HOT to COLD along with another switch that controls the flow. I'm guessing you are in the FULL HOT mode.

I've had it happen, the rear was blowing hot while we were trying to cool the front. So far as I can tell, you've got to look at the rear controls and see where they are and adjust accordingly. Luckily, I seldom have anyone back there, but after that happened, I check.

That is a good question. I will re-phrase it so it is easier to understand.

OP wants to know how the DASH controls can be set to A/C and there is not button for INDEPENDENT REAR control like on a mini-van. So technically the ENTIRE car should be on A/C. However, the rear can be heat or A/C.

He is wondering where the heat is coming from.

Yea that's what we see in our Genny. Cold up front, HEAT in the rear. LoL..

A visit to my dealer today for my 7,500 mi service revealed that we actually have three HVAC zones (2 front and one rear) in our cars. Perhaps you guys with cooled seats have four? I also tested my rear vents and they can blow either heat, or AC, at the same time that the front zones are doing their own thing (heat, or AC). I had always assumed that there was no separate zone for the rear since Hyundai doesn't promote it as a sales feature, or even mention it in the manual.
