  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I think we have identified the shifting issue and loose turbo hose on the site, am I right? Or they differ?

LOL...first link is one guy with an issue.

Second link...no issues.

No idea what this thread is about. Where are the regrets exactly?
Thread is about providing links so folks are aware of the long term tests if they want to follow.

Also, regrets are from those of us who hoped the promise of a fantastic Genesis owner experience was real but who have experienced sub par service from incompetent dealership staffs, dealerships who refuse to honor the valet or loaners, and some rather less than stellar reliability. Will be interesting to see how the long term reviews go, but they arent off to a great start considering the early accolades.

The second test indicates lackluster performance for the 2.0t car compared to rivals and the first is experiencing the dealership incompetence and reliability problems with less than 6k miles on the car. Just wait until they have to go in for more maintenance and run into the scheduling waits, the unavailability of the Genesis techs, using crap oil, lack of loaners, etc. Hopefully I'm wrong and maybe they get a decent Hyundai dealership, but I think there are more bad than good out there.

Interesting reads but I don’t think the sky is falling yet. The 2.0T seemed like a good “entry level” luxury car and I think most people who did their research knew it would feel underpowered compared to competitors.

Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately, the dealer experience and my lack of confidence in the one local genesis dealer in my area is causing me to move away from a G70 as my next car. The steep depreciation also makes it worse if i don't end up keeping the car long term. This saddens me as the car seems like a great deal. Unfortunately, I'm now leaning towards leasing a 2021 awd bmw m3 a while after they are released.

This has been discussed in other threads so you may want to look at them. You really have to look at total cost of ownership. Initial cost of other brands can offset some of that depreciation.
Hopefully, by 2021 the dealer experience will be improved too.

Yeah, I hear ya. If I were to do it over again, I would go for a BMW, Audi, or Mercedes. The depreciation is horrid and the poor ownership experience only negates any cost savings over the other brands. The added costs of the other brands is easily warranted by the overall ownership experience and brand panache.

My brother just got a 2016 BMW 340i. This has the B58 engine, same one as the Supra and Z4 (albeit slightly detuned). He was showing me an ECU flash he's gonna get - it's a tool that plugs into the OBDII port, and connects to your phone. He will have 4 different maps: Stage 1 maps (91, or 93 octane) and Stage 2 maps (again, 91 or 93 octane variants of each). And he's able to flash any of them at any time, he also has datalogging capability via bluetooth. The dyno charts look sweet - stock his car puts down about 315WHP. On the Stage 2, 91 octane map, he'll get ~425WHP, and ~505WTQ. ALL STOCK OTHERWISE. WTF! Haha.

I know ours are similar with the JB4 on Map 3+, but you need more than 91 octane to do so... His car will be faster than mine after he starts doing his exhaust. And he only paid 20k. When mine is all said and done, I may be at 450-470WHP. But he'll be right behind me with just a tune. After he does full bolt-ons, I'm sure he'll be making even more power than me. :c

Don't get me wrong, I love my car, and the luxury inside is top notch (much better than his 340i!), and I like our AWD system (again, better than what he's got!). But I'm not the happiest owner because of my partial warranty, nor am I happy about the tiny turbos and the difficulty of doing potent mods (ie bigger turbos, downpipes). And to top it all off, my local dealer are a bunch of scumbags, and Genesis USA is ready to remove your warranty at a drop of a hat, or in my case a snap of a stud (lol). Perhaps my next car will be a used 2020+ M340i or something. Hopefully Mazda finally comes out with an RX8 successor - though, I'm not holding my breath for that. Lol. Whatever.

Yeah, your fiasco with the stud would have made me drive the car right to Carmax the minute you got it running again.

Funny you mention the warranty... I just lowered my car with Eibach springs and had to take the car in for another seat issue. Guess what? They noticed the springs and voided my warranty for the complete drivetrain and suspension. They said the driveline angles changed which puts more stress on the engine, transmission, rear end, axles, etc. Oh well, I kind of expected that was going to happen.

That's what happens when you offer a 10 yr 100k mile warranty as a marketing ploy. You try whatever you can to get out of it.

Whaaat??? No freaking way. Those assholes. I want to say I can't believe it, but honestly I'm not surprised. *shakes head*

Yeah, that sucks!
Todd, another advantage of the G70 over the F30 BMW is the chassis and steering. I was really disappointed in my 2014 335xi, even though it had relatively low miles and all the M sport packages. I knew ahead of time that the steering feel would suck, based on the many magazine tests and reviews I had read, but the suspension feel and the flexy chassis were my main complaints. I used to say the chassis was made from Taffy. I had all sorts of creaks and squeaks from all over - the center stack, the console, the door panels. Just a simple push of the seat heater button would elicit an annoying creaking sound. Braking or cornering hard, or hitting a small bump would also cause a cacophony of creaks. It drove me crazy. That's what drove me to trade it in on the Genesis. It feels much stiffer and so far no noises (except the headliner popping sound on hot days). Hopefully it will still be as tight and quiet at 40k miles
I hope your brother's car is better than mine was. (if you want to drive him crazy, just try pressing around on the bezels of the radio or HVAC controls. 🤭😈). In any case, it will certainly be fast!

Good to know. Another thing I really do like about my G70 is the steering feel, and I totally agree - the chassis is super firm, solid, with literally no creaks/squeaks at all.

Thinking about it, the only other car I fell in love with was the Giulia. But it's AWD system was a disappointment, and the fact that you can only pair it with the 2.0. Personally, I don't really like BMW's, simply because there are so many of them on the road and they all look the same to me now. I love the uniqueness of my G70 - but I just don't trust it anymore!

Why don’t you go used? You’ve obviously got the mechanical skills to do repairs on your own and you could get an aftermarket or CPO warranty for anything huge. You could get something really unique and probably faster than the G70. An RS4 or E63 AMG spring to mind

I think you've got the right idea.

This may sound strange but There is not many cars I would even want over my G70. Something really drastic would have to happen for me to take my car to those idiots for warranty. If the unfortunate situation ever happens (knock on wood) I figure it would take me about 3 to four hours to return to stock. Then I would just leave it stock @ that point until end of warranty except for a JB4 that I haven't purchased yet.
I personally fear used cars because of the unknown. I enjoy modifying but I dont enjoy repair after repair.

I can see the suspension. You modified it, you now own it.

I'm not sure how the rest of the drive train is affected. Problem is, how do you prove it without some expensive engineering review or something.

Right. The manufacturer can deny whatever they want based on their own assumptions. That's fine, it's part of the risk in customizing things.
