If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have Ultra Leather seats and the drivers seat is being to "pill"
threads are lifting from the perforations on the bolster on the edge near the door.

I have never had this happen with leather seats.

anyone else seeing this?

Mine still looks new after four months!:)

Could you snap a quick picture? I'm curious to see the extent of the pilling.

FWIW, after 8 1/2 months of use the leather seats on my V6 still look like new except for a couple "crease" marks on the drivers seat from my big butt. :D

Right there with ya jwaters943. My driver seat has butt creases too. But not bad (5.5 months). I'm really in favor of the Zaino leather products. It keeps my V6 (non premium) feeling supple, smelling rich and minimizes butt crease.

Yeah, mine is doing the same thing. Thought I might be too picky. Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Should this be brought to the attention of the dealer?

No pilling on mine after three months/3200 miles of ownership. I have the 4.6 with premium leather.

Two and a half months, 2200 miles of ownership and no leather issues here. Still as good as new.

not sure that I know what "pilling" is but my seats have tiny little threads coming out of the perforated holes in the leather. . . very strange look and EVERYONE that looks at my car notices this . . . Anyone have any ideas? I'll try to take a pic soon.

I tried to taking pictures but it just doesn't show in the pics..

just very very short loose threads poking from the holes in the leather.

I'm not sure I would call what you're describing "pilling".

FWIW, the leather seats in my Lexus GS430 had little "hairs" sticking through each one of the perforations from day one. It was only visible in certain lighting conditions when viewed up close.

Is this something you've noticed getting worse w/ time?

Well, it is something I recently noticed, and only on the driver's seat, on the outside edge (high wear area).

but I think I have it figured out.....

when I wear slacks, there is no pilling,

when I wear jeans, there is.

I think the loose threads are always there but more likely to pull up out of the holes when the "snag" on the coarse denim.

my wife thinks I am nuts, but I just tested it,

when I leave the car after wearing jeans the little threads are poking up , but when I leave the car wearing dockers, no little threads.....

Oh noes! Your leather seats are allergic to denim! :D

I really think this is a non-issue.....

if I run a brush over the seats I can cause the "threads" to lift from the holes in the leather.

Then if I run my hand over the seat the threads disappear.

Well, I sure hope Hyundai "fixes" the Genesis' obvious incompatibility with denim before I purchase a Genesis. So far, I have been following threads that show the Genesis is not "compatible" with certain stretches of road and now this...wardrobe incompatibilites. Will this vehicle ever be ready for prime time? (Just kidding on all fronts so don't flame me)

Lol! Good one.

Not only you can show off your Gen to your friends, now you can give them a magic show as well!

Sounds like this "effect" is being varied by static electricity. The little threads are attracted to some materials and repelled by others. Question is what are they? Does the premium leather have some kind of backing that had other than clean holes poked in it when the leather was perforated?

Havent experienced this issue yet after 4 months. I would worry if the leather is cracking or aging prematurely, but you can prevent that if you take care of it every once in a while. OKC329 may be onto something. The little fibers poking through the holes could be the batting that is used to cushion the seats, somehow it has worked its way up through the seat?

I believe the fibers are the backing of the leather seat stitching....

really not an issue, now that I know what causes the fibers to lift.

Yes, I've had that happen after about 4500 miles to the passenger seat only. Strange thing is that the passenger seat has only been occupied for about half that distance.

Took it into the dealer and he has forwarded the pictures to Hyundai, and has a seat surface (the full leather part) due in this week for replacement. Short answer is, YES, report it and have them replace it!
