  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

UNAVI Installed 2010 Genesis Sedan

This system looks a lot like what I experienced on a new Buick, and if so is MUCH, MUCH better than what comes with the Genny. Although i love my Genesis otherwise (especially the smart cruise) I will not buy another one unless the display system is improved significantly.

The Hyundai system (Tech package) also has brightness adjustability, but the sun shining on it just renders it useless. My portable Garmin system has no issues.

I have shielded the screen by putting my hand above the screen and then it's fine. Just not practical, of course :)

I've noticed Honda has installed a sun shield above their dash mounted GPS units. Pitiful that Hyundai doesn't do something about this problem. *sigh*

Giant Robo, you obviously have electronic experience and are comfortable installing the system. I wouldn't be. Do you have any idea what someone would charge me to install it?

By no means I would call myself a professional, honestly the UNAVI instructions are one of the best that I have ever seen in regards to a 12v product. I was talking to David from carlighttrends.com and he was telling me that the UNAVI instructions was developed by their lead installer and engineer, so they did not take the stock instructions and just translate them they redeveloped them for the US, and really made them detailed and also so easy to understand that Is why I really can not take all the credit.

Before doing the install, I talked to David and he was telling me that a good installer should not charge any more than 1 to 1 1/2 hours and this would include the backup camera so after calling around a couple of local shops I decided to have a go at it and again its all plug and play all the wires are labeled and very easy to follow.

Guys, for a $1300 system the least we can expect is to have lifetime updates of the maps. Are the maps user upgradable?

Since you guys build a custom navi for the Genny, I have a question for you. I have the Tech Package and is there any way for me to add the Front Camera and Blind Spot monitoring? Do you sell the camera or anything to help with that mod, if thats even possible?

Yes the maps are user upgradable and are only $75 for the update. Now In my personal and professional experience and I tell this to all my customers who ask Its not necessary to update every year. honestly and this is from me personally In the past I've had all types of Navigation Systems from handheld to DVD based and no SD Card and Micro SD card based systems. The map updates are minimal as to what actually is updated, I've seen new roads build and not show up on a Handheld (TT) not to say any names until 3 years later. By the time the road is finished, mapped and that data makes its way to the software companies takes time so I would not go crazy updating yearly for the better its better to wait a year or two.

Now in regards to adding a front camera, yes you can and you can just about add as many cameras as you like. All that needs to happen is the installer needs to add a separate line with a switch and the user can toggle on or off, we've had a customer add a front facing camera and this is how it was done.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
David you beat me to it, I was going to say basically the same in the past I have done a yearly updates on my Navigation devices (a tomtom dash mounted that had life time updates) and honestly the updates are minimal at best when they where available. Its better to wait a year or two and then update and there is a good chance that the update is just a couple of POIs and a road or two its not a major difference.

David/Giant Robo,

Do you know of a aftermarket integrated bluetooth system that could work with unavi for my 2009 premium plus genesis.

Shipping will be FREE! that is a savings of $40, on top of the FREE Backup Camera (Savings of $199) and the discounted price of the unit.

I know this is a bit dated but I was wondering is this compatible with Tech packaged cars? Always liked thr Unavi unit and my factory nav unit is starting to get quirky (I vaguely remember reading somewhere I would need a non nav radio but not sure).

Great question. I've got a 2010 Genny w/Tech package (4.6L) and having too many issues with it. Example: There is a street in my town that is over 100 years old..... not a major thoroughfare, but, definitely an important street in my town, and the factory NAVI doesn't even show the street!! I'm not about to go into the POIs that aren't listed that have been in business for over 25 years, yet lists business that have been closed for 10+ years still there!!! Gawd.

Anyway, just wondering if the functionality of the UNAVI is similar to the factory unit?
