  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

UNavi X5 Integrated Navigation - My thoughts..

I do have a question about the rear camera. Is it only active when in reverse? Or does it transmit a signal all the time. Interested in recording during my commute. Looking to see about recording from the front as well.

Xiaphin,

I would venture to say that the camera signal is active any time there is power to it. If one powers it from their reverse light circuit in the trunk lid, it would only be active when it's in reverse. However, if you have it hooked to constant power, it should remain on at all times.

I only come to this conclusion because the only connection between the head unit and the trunk is a 20 foot RCA wire. So, there is nothing being sent from the head unit to "activate" the power on the camera. So, i would imagine that the RCA Video signal could be split, but it may degrade video quality by doing so.

When I made my purchase online, I did see that UNavi also makes 2 CHANNEL HD CAMERA DVR'S FOR FRONT AND REAR RECORDING

What happens if it malfunctions? Even if it has a warranty, who actually repairs it? A factory installed Nav system should be handled by the dealer but what about after market units like this?

This definitely wouldn't be handled by your Hyundai Dealer should there be a failure. I would imagine that this is standard for any after-market item that you would install in your Genesis. Page #49 of the OWNERS MANUAL explains all about the 3 Year Warranty and how to handle claims. Basically, they have a repair center in California. I can't vouch for UNavi's responsiveness to warranty claims because I've had no issues with my unit. I would imagine that David at Car Light Trends would be able to shed some light on this if you give him a call. I've updated my webpage to include some Warranty information.

Super duper summary on the nav unit. Went well beyond what was necessary. A terrific job. Took alot of work and patience for that wonderful review. Not that I can use it in my 2013 RSPEC, but for anybody looking to invest in one of these, you did a magnificent job.

All I can say is WOW, in all the years that I have been in the 12v aftermarket business I have never seen such an amazing product review. Thank you very much for all the kind words about our product, and us here at UNAVI.

If any members here have any questions please feel free and ask.

UPDATE: UNavi X5 Integrated Navigation - My thoughts..

I'm still doing my best to answer all of your questions...please keep them coming. I'm here to help.

I've updated my page to include most of the questions that have been asked.

UPDATED QUESTION AND ANSWER SECTION HERE

Please don't hesitate to ask should you have a question. I know what it was like as I was going back and forth in my mind trying to determine if it was worth dropping over a grand on this unit.

Ken

excellent thread. My 2011 Genny had it installed by the dealer when I purchased the car. Everything works flawlessly. I play movies from my memory stick but it only plays through 2 speakers while watching movies. That is my only complaint. Im going to call the contact you provided in Florida and find out if there is an input for a dvd player so my movies can play through all speakers or any other options to change that.

How can I tell if I have an X2 or an X5? I don't ever remember seeing it pop up on the screen when it powers on.

If I'm not mistaking, if you hear a weird melody and have to click to accept acknowledgement of the navigation system warnings every time you start the car, it's an X2. If it uses iGo Primo maps, it's an X5.

I think.

King Ken-Fantastic write-up and great information. Two questions:

1) Apparently, this unit can be installed without purchasing a separate "dash kit?" Most aftermarket GPS need a separate "dash kit," to reconfigure the dash hole size and mounting gear. I am finding it IMPOSSIBLE to find such a kit for a 2013 Genesis Sedan. Perhaps it's because one isn't NEEDED? Is this true?

2) Do you if this unit supports Satellite Radio, and if it the original sat module can be used?

Thanks.

The UNAVI system is not a generic audio/nav replacement. It is specifically made only for certain cars (listed on their website) and each model is custom made to fit the existing opening. No additional mounting kit is needed. However, it is only made to fit a Genesis that does not currently have a factory Nav system.

I am pretty sure that all existing functions are retained with UNAVI. What does the website say?

Thanks for the info... I did more research on my own and discovered that, as you say, no dash kit is needed because that unit is custom made for the exact hole size on the Genesis. I also looked more closely at the website and the unit retains all the factory functions, including satellite radio.

Dave, the sales rep at UNavi, confirmed that the kit comes with all needed installation materials.
